Yeah, that is. That's why I wasn't surprised he didn't start, it was a good move from RM. But I can't stand when Kev tries to blame tactics and poor starting XI choices on certain players. He's useful in a different mindset for example against Kiev away. But he just hates him and I can't stand that. Every pplayer is useful just got to find the right moment.

He would have been a useful choice off the bench on the hour mark, or if Collocini hadn't been dismissed. He's a talented lad, but not what we need if playing a quicker, more direct game. Not yet anyway, but he's an encouraging talent all around.

Fck off Kev you no mark wum

Anyone listening to 5Live, they were interviewing Marinez and not the producer or 606 hosts, but the interviewer said we will have to cut you short Roberto as we have LVG waiting, what an utter disgrace

I thought Coleman and McCarthy were almost taking it in turns to get forward today, which explained why Coleman was missing on the wing at times. he was returning the 'sitting in' favour to let Jamesey charge forward.
Then again Jamesey could simply have been charging forward because there were times Coleman looked as if he couldn't be arsed.

The full backs had to stay back more to stop the threat from Newcastle's wide players.

Just heard that. Made me wonder if they would have done the same if it was the other way round.......

Well it didnt, cos we know the answer dont we?

Not mentioned too much, but anyone else think the Kone/Rom combo looked pretty decent?

I don't want to defend him, thought he won't play today. It's Kev's frustration I'm not friendly with. His rage could be against anyone and it's not healthy. These lads trust each other on the pitch so he could man himself up too.

We still have a lot of work to do off the ball. We haven't closed down well enough this season and have defended the box rather than mixing it with the opposition. This defending of the box allows the opposition time and space to make decisions, and that's the last thing we can afford to do. Pre-season needs a hell of a lot of work off the ball. We did show more intent with the ball today although it wasn't as smooth as last season but at least we are trying to get from back to front quicker

I agree with your thoughts. In Europe we have looked quality with the ball, certainly over the last two games, so the potential is there and perhaps it's at least in part a confidence thing in the Premiership. I actually think we're only two or three players away from a top quality side, after which confidence perhaps becomes the decisive factor.

Gibson was awesome today. Everything. Passing. Tackling. Getting into the refs face. Giving the scorers a firm grab of the shirt and a headbutt.

Love him

...he's what I call an 'imperious' footballer. Gives another dimension to the side with his passing ability and record with him starting also suggests we remain solid.

Not the only plus today, Alcaraz was an able deputy and could figure on Thursday if Stones is still poorly. Also, Osman, sometimes folk don't realise how good something is until it's not there. You can see why he picks Lennon in the precarious position we are in.

Great to have a standard home win.

Not a criticism of Kone, but we could have played next to anyone up top today and it would have looked better, just because it means we have more options to hit early.

As soon as I saw the teamsheet, I knew Martinez had got it right today and knew exactly how we'd play. It was done to perfection.
