We aren't that far off actually; assuming we only move the deadwood off all, of whom have been cited here regularly, we only need 3 more given the additions and Kean returning. RB, and 2 midfielders, if Kean leaves then somebody that can play the number 9 role as well as across the front 3. Even allows the deadwood to leave without replacing; would like more of a clean out but being realistic for all the reasons mentioned above. This would give us a very decent squad even if you think the additions aren't top 6 material they are backup / given a new chance at a small cost. Willing to give the manager strong support based on his previous players comments also, just the style we need and he has plenty of experience and the motivation to stay here along time given his personal situation unlike the previous lot.

The sort of transfers we have pursued under him reek of staleness and a lazy approach.
We need to be risk takers with young players brought in from anywhere that represents more than a decent punt.
It's risky but not nearly to the same degree as bringing in peak, washed up rejects like Delph, Iwobi, and the like on a kings ransom.
What's going on is far from ideal obviously but we have to get our affairs in order. If these straitened circumstances force Brands and the club into a more sustainable means of doing business and actually scouting players, as well as picking up the odd bargain here and there and having a functioning production line, then in the long run we will be the better for it.
But I wouldnt give the guy tens of millions to spend and expect different to what we've got already. For me he has had three years, and we are going backwards. That's enough of a verdict.

I admire your optimism and I do think there is quality in the squad, I just struggle to see us progressing with that right-hand side still left unaddressed(Townsend reaks of a stop gap) and a lack of creativity if James goes. I'll wait till the window closes before I judge but I have zero expectations especially given RB is a very safety first coach and the teams around us are progressing.

Inter Milan are now swimming in cash now when Rom is gone so fully expect Dumfries to go there. Also i can not see why PSV would want a loan deal. So can not see him coming to us
No Manager has ever done this over the last 8 years - the old adage keep on changing Managers like we have done you get too much baggage of deadbeat players.....who nobody wants......since the DOF position It's got far worse imo -
