This is true but as a mental unit myself you’re always gonna have questions asked of you that maybe aren’t asked of someone that hasn’t disclosed such problems, can be a double edged sword at times opening up but that’s the stigma/mindset I personally and a lot of other people have to change.

Talking isn’t weak, as Dom said it can save lives.
Its a brave new world out there, you only have to change 1 persons mind and its all worth it.

This is the norm these days. Keyboard warriors sat in their bedrooms typing utterly vile rubbish about someone they know nothing about. Happens on every forum, every element of social media. We all have the right to question a performance, tactics, quality etc but too many are ready to utterly shoot down a player because they can. Modern footballers will look on social media. Some are probably on this very forum seeng the words that so-called fans use to batter them with every week. We can suggest they don’t look at it but try telling any young man or woman to not look at what’s being said about them. They can’t. Reign in the personal insults and stick to being fans and supporters. We can still ask for more from our manager and players but remember they are still young men and money doesn’t change that.
Brilliantly put
I hope people learn

I’m afraid the crap spoken about him this past year by the “fans” is utterly disgusting

Why on earth are some of you so desperate to jump on our players backs with zero idea what is going on

Time and time again it happens and you never learn

He was crap for some performances. I've said that, loads have. But he never didn't try. He didn't trust his body enough, it's a mental thing - but when you're an elite athlete it can happen. Some get over it quicker than others, Dom had issues doing it and it was a very bad injury that he just couldn't get past. We saw in the last few games him playing with a freedom that, the Leeds (H) game aside, which I think was adrenalin really, we hadn't seen from him this season since August, and then the timing and positioning etc started to come back a bit too.

Whether he stays or goes he's been a credit to this club during his time here and he's got to where he got to by sheer hard work. Good on him. And he scored the goal to keep us up before the last day and possibly ensure we get market value for him if he is sold.

Im trying fam, I really am.

Good on him for speaking up.

This helps fill in the puzzling blanks, as far as his absence from the team when apparently physically fit goes.

I hope he’s okay, I hope the club has been able to support him to get the help he needs. It’s a big deal to open up like this.
He wasn't physically fit mate hence the 'dark place' thing I think.

He just wasn't fit pretty much all season.

He's just come off the best season of his career and then had one where he's hardly played and the team has been in the mire and for half of the season the club was getting torn apart by every section of its being. It would be hard for anyone.

I don't actually think Dom was calling out criticism.

I think he's just saying the injury put him in a dark place, and he came out the other side by talking to people.

My point was simply that it shows how bad that injury was, when people were having a go at him for being lazy, had his head turned etc. To me it always seemed like the effort was there but he just couldn't get things clicking. Thankfully it at least clicked at the end of the season.

Maybe, yeah. It’s hard when it’s a question of mental health. That can be debilitating in and of itself.

Injury certainly seems have been the catalyst at the very least. You can understand how going from his personal highs under Ancelotti to the lows of this season must have been crushing.

Evidently he was deeply emotionally affected by it. Since he’s clearly an open and articulate lad, I expect we’ll hear more in time.

what annoyed me is people turning on the lad labelling him lazy etc.

If it was a player who had a track record for being lazy, then by all means it's a safe assumption to make.

But Dom has never shown anything but effort and 100% commitment to Everton. Whatever else has been, and still is, lacking in his game (and there's plenty), I don't understand how people can ever question that.

Mate of mine who flies over for the matches with me got a call from his wife 2 hrs before the Palace game.

Her young cousin had killed himself at his rented appt in San Francisco. He'd left detailed notes of passwords, bank details, emails, social etc and explained he'd had professional help and meds "for over a year" but he just didn't fancy carrying on. He had a cracking job in a great city (SF - he's from Luton ffs) a year younger than DCL.

When Dom says talking saved his life, it may literally mean that. It may mean it saved him mentally/emotionally. Either way, he needs applauding from the rooftops.

A guy coming into his prime, on the back of a great season. Barely used for his country despite Harry Kane being less than sparkling. Returns to club with a broken toe, not able to train, aggregates toe, muscle problems grow and before you know it 5 months have gone. Your mates are struggling on the field, your best mate is also injured and you don't want to burden him. You rush back, get injured again.

All the while you read ill-judged comments about your lack of commitment, your interests in fashion, the photos, the bags, the move to Arsenal, are you gay, are you trapped, not fit to wear the shirt etc etc.

Whatever happens, he's a hero to many for expressing himself the way he does.

Don't ever change, Dom.

Im probably in the minority here but if I was selling one forward to reshape the squad, it wouldn’t be this fella. Out and out number 9 who we’d find it very hard to replace. Going to be boss next season if we revamp the squad and he’s still in it. Newcastle can sniff it.
Don't think he'll get the price we're asking this season anyway after injury and low goal tally. Richarlison deserves a move and he can fetch a great price.

Yup, I know we brought in Townsend and Gray but the former is just a blammo specialist and the latter is patchy. We're desperate for some clever players.

And left-footers.
Townsend put in some good balls tbf. Gray is p good at creating. The rest of the squad is crap at it.

The ‘lazy’ tag was exactly that. Lazy.

I saw people criticising him post-match on multiple occasions for not running, not winning the ball in the air when I’d very clearly seen him do both with my own eyes.

There are plenty out there who dislike him for who he is, and don’t want to admit that - perhaps even to themselves. They dress* that criticism of him up in unjustified criticism of how he plays.

* Pardon the pun.
