Benitez is a fat whopper

We'd most likely have been in the same position unless the other manager replaced the whole squad for the £1.5m Benitez was given

Fell out with the DoF. Had full control over transfers.

Instead of buying a couple of midfielders with the £30mill he sold Digne for he bought 2 fullbacks. He also was fine with loaning El Ghazi which meant it limited our loan options.

The Blob was happy playing a 2 man midfield all season.

Whatever tight budget he had...he went about it the wrong way

No, I'd like Lampard thanks. I would've liked Benitez to have had the same squad too
I don't think he would have signed the same players, so all a bit academic. He was up against it with little investment in fairness, but due diligence should have told the board how he'd carry on.

I also seem to recall negotiations going on a while, apparently so Benitez could gain assurances/negotiate resources. I firmly think he knew what he was walking into.

That Digne transfer is proving to be good business. El Ghazi was a mad one, who knows what the hell went on there.

As for 2 in midfield – until a few weeks ago, that's what Lampard was doing as well. We didn't have the players to do anything else.

I mean, I’ll be completely honest, when we played Leeds and Brighton away and absolutely ran the show, even I thought there was a chance.

The home games we benefitted from a very easy start, and got results, from the quality and nothing to do with him.

All went down hill from the Villa game, and the Benitez we saw throughout his career came out.

Beyond Stubborn, Favourites, no blame for defeats. Add to that the majority were never going to warm to him, just made the whole appointment bizarre.

Fans won’t go against good results, the fans didn’t slay him off, being banners until he began his stubborness.

Pretty much the same here. Thought we looked quite decent, there was no toxicity, fans getting behind us.
Then it just unravelled, very very quickly, then his stubbornness was bordering on spite by the end, some of his decisions were unexplainable.

If kopites are laughing that an ex manager of theirs is taking us down and cheering his name. I think it paints a good picture of how terrible he was, because if he was any good and had us playing well, they'd hate him. But they don't, they love him even more, because he was an absolute joke at us.

Very true. And this is to all our fans that still defend him, the company you’re keeping is a load of rabid kopites who were laughing at us and chanting Agent Rafael and absolutely idolise him. Rats and traitors you all are, and we won’t forget.

Why are you defending him so much? He was awful.
I don't know really.

I just think last season saw the best and the worst of our fanbase. It felt like we all wanted him to fail from the start so he was never really given a fair chance.

I'm no advocate for the guy by the way – I think he's a bell – but it was an ugly time to be a blue in my opinion.
