Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

IS OSCAR VILHELMSSON'S FUTURE IN DOUBT?

You may remember back in June 2024, Everton signed a 20 year old Swedish Striker from Darmstadt 98 in Bundesliga 2. Oscar Vilhelmsson then had two successful loan spells with Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool and now he finds himself back at Everton and currently unregistered for the new Premier League campaign. Ferguson spoke highly of Vilhelmsson recently and told the media that he will be part of the squad this season but it seems the Swedish Striker has missed out on registration and could well be on the move. At this point we are unsure whether it is a loan deal or whether he moves on a permanent but with just one year left on his contract, we could see the Striker leave without ever playing a game for Everton.

Everton vs Brighton & Hove Albion

8th August 2026

Lineup vs Brighton.webp

Brighton result.webp

It was time for the new season to commence and what a great start it could be for Everton who face last season’s survivors Brighton. Brighton have been on a decline and just managed to stay in the top flight after finishing 17th last season. Van Bommel was sacked at the end of the season and Danny Cowley took the job after leaving Stoke City. It was a quiet window for Brighton who didn’t take the opportunity to strengthen but Everton seemed to have done quite well this window. Matheus Cunha made his debut playing behind Konate and it was a very familiar line-up for Everton. On the bench, youngster John Hepburn was waiting in the wings for his debut as was Martin Tejon and Lucas Digne, in his second spell at the club. New signing Carlos Alcaraz was not included in the squad. 20 minutes in and Roony was lively as usual, he played a one-two with Maffeo and then a quick exchange with Garner before lashing the ball into the bottom left corner from the edge of the box! Everton 1-0 up! It was a strong first half performance from Everton with Cunha and Roony putting in the work in the attacking third, Konate had a chance after the long ball forward from Garner but Verbruggen was quick off his line to close him down. Cunha took the ball in the middle of the park and passed it to Garner, he found Roony in plenty of space on the right which allowed him to get inside the box, Brighton caught all over the place, he passed it to Konate and he slotted to make it 2-0! Konate off the mark! Ferguson made three changes with just under ten minutes to play, Cunha went off for Samardzic, Moleiro came on for Gonzalez and Lucas Digne made his return replacing Alex Valle. Pickford took the goal kick on 86 minutes, Samardzic nodded it down to Roony and he chipped it forward for Konate to run onto and take down before smashing it in with his left foot! 3-0! Konate with his second! What a fantastic start for Everton! Brighton did not show up and they look like a side in trouble already! Roony Bardghji was incredible today, with performances like that he is going to dominate this league. It was very Kevin De Bruyne-esque!

Duncan, pundits are comparing Roony Bardghji’s performance to that of Kevin De Bruyne, what do you think?

DF: I think he was outstanding and put some very clever passes to our Strikers, he was always in a great position and his goal and two assists were quality. It’s a perfect start for him but he knows he has to keep going now, we knew what kind of player we had when we signed it and just like anyone, it takes time to adjust. This season can be his best.

Karim Konate got two today, he also looks fresh and ready for the season.

DF: Karim has put the work in and pre-season he looked very sharp. Two great finishes today and he is another player that needed time to bed in. Everyone is behind him and wants to see him succeed here, he knows he can if he works hard.

Arsenal vs Everton
15th August 2026

Lineup vs Arsenal.webp

=Arsenal result.webp

League Champions Arsenal drew with Chelsea 2-2 in the opening weekend of the new season and Everton will be looking to take something from them at The Emirates. Arsenal’s big money signing Ademola Lookman who joined from Man Utd for £50M started against his former club and Duncan Ferguson kept the same side that brushed Brighton aside last week. Everton could only hold on for 15 minutes until Tierney’s corner to the near post was headed in by Diomande, Pickord had no chance of it but he left Branthwaite for dust. Everton were glad to get im at half-time as Arsenal were much quicker and were playing around them too easily, luckily it was only 1-0. Everton were done again with the corner, they cleared the ball from the kick but Vieira got it to Williams just inside the area and he found the net through the bodies to make it 2-0 just after half-time. There was so much frustration for Everton as Konate came deep to receive the pass from Onana but he played it straight to Osimhen and he made it 3-0 with ease on 57 minutes. That was the end of Konate’s game and he made way for Beto. Gonzalez also went off for Moleiro. Moleiro made an impact when he brought Valle into the attack and he used his pace to get to the byline and cross into the box for Beto to pull one back! 65 minutes gone and a glimmer of hope for Everton! VAR want to check it for offside, Beto was ruled offside and Michael Oliver overturned it! Roony was also down on the pitch and was clutching his calf. He went off and Martin Tejon came on for his debut. The board went up for 5 minutes, Cunha went off for Samardzic but Onana found the space for Beto and he slotted the ball through for the Striker to run on to and bury past Ramsdale! Surely too late though. It came to an end at The Emirates and Arsenal got their first win sending Everton back to Merseyside with nothing. The champions with a solid victory over a frustrated Everton.

Everton vs Manchester City
22nd August 2026

Lineup vs Man City.webp

=Man city result.webp

It was bad news for Everton as Roony Bardghji was ruled out for around four weeks with a calf injury. The winger went down in the build up to Everton’s goal against Arsenal and was injured whilst getting caught in the turf. Martin Tejon came in for his first start against title contenders Manchester City. City finished fourth last season, their worst finish since 2015/16 and now under new manager Jose Mourinho they are two wins out of two after thrashing Chelsea 6-1, showing the rest of the league that they are coming back. Nathan Patterson was back from injury and started at Right back and Carlos Alcaraz was on the bench. After 27 minutes there was not much to talk about in the Sky Saturday night clash, Gonzalez got the ball from Garner and nipped into the arena from the left and his shot just curled wide, the closest Everton have come. Ten minutes later, Tejon was in space on the right and he cut inside on his left foot and sent a shot towards goal but it was easy for Ederson to tip over. Man City were struggling in front of goal, Foden and Haaland unable to find their scoring boots. Tejon played in Patterson and the crowd roared them forward, he crossed to Gonzalez and he nodded it down for Cunha to strike but he shot over the bar as the whole crowd fell silent for a moment. Samardzic came on for Garner on 67 minutes. Everton made two further changes with five minutes to go, Moleiro replaced Gonzalez and Alcaraz came on for his debut replacing Cunha. It wasn’t the greatest game and City failed to make it three out of three and Mourinho could only look on as his City side were the second best team on the field tonight.

DF: It’s always tough against Man City and I felt we dealt with them well at the back and was happy with the amount of chances we created, mostly from outside the box but we were competitive and stayed in the game.

Everton vs Notts County
League Cup Second Round
26th August 2026

Lineup vs Notts County.webp

=Notts County result.webp

Last season’s runners up Everton started off against League Two Notts County. It was a chance for Ferguson to rotate and he took the choice to bring in a midfield pairing of Redondo and Hepburn. Billy Crellin was given his second Everton start in goal with Godfrey and Zubeldia in front of him. Ten minutes in and Notts County were defending well denying Hepburn and Beto with two early chances. Moleiro played a great cross into the box for Beto and Stone made a great save pushing it away from close range. Moleiro’s crossing was on point and on 20 minutes his ball to the far post found a jumping Beto to smash in the header making it 1-0! Billy Crellin went up for the ball on 31 minutes and collided with Striker Dom Telford, he went down with an injury, and could not continue. It was a disaster for Everton as Ferguson made a fudamental error by not naming a Goalkeeper on the bench! Nathan Patterson got up and made the change with Crellin for the shirt and gloves! What a serious error by Duncan Ferguson! Everton came forward with the hope that putting the game beyond doubt would see them through. Valle with a forward ball to Moleiro, it overran but he kept it in, he pulled it back to Cham who set up Hepburn for the shot and he played it wide of the post, unlucky. Valle played it down the left for Moleiro on 44 minutes who was having a great game getting forward and taking players on, he played a wonderful ball into the box for Beto to come in from behind and nudge past the keeper making it 2-0! The Everton defence had done well so far but on 48 minutes Dan Crowley was given space to get the ball onto his right foot and curl one past Patterson into the bottom right. Everton moved the ball nicely, stretching the pitch, Valle forward to Moleiro who cut inside and blasted into the net leaving the keeper with no chance, Alberto Moleiro, what a game he is having! Beto pulled up with an injury on 55 minutes so it was no hat-trick today and he was replaced by Konate. Odoffin crossed to the far post for County and he found the head of Bundu which sneaked into the bottom corner, Patterson unable to get to it. A few minutes later Hepburn got an assist as he played in Konate who turned and shot low into the bottom left corner, great strike, 4-2! Moleiro sent the corner in on 68 minutes, Zubelida got up for the header and Hepburn guided the header in to get his first Everton goal! The three goal cushion was enough to allow Everton to compose themselves and play out the rest of the game. On to Round Three!

Duncan, let’s get this one out of the way. Billy Crellin went off injured, firstly is he ok and secondly, why wasn’t there a back up Goalkeeper on the bench?

DF: Billy has suffered a broken arm when he challenged for the ball, completely accidental and Dom has been in to see him since the incident. He’ll be go for surgery and then assess where he is up to. I gave JP the night off, it was a mistake not to take put a Goalkeeper on the bench but the lads went out and made sure there was no doubt in losing.

John Hepburn played very well tonight, an 18 year old with a goal and an assist.

DF: He put in a very mature performance, a great finish too and a great ball through for Karim to slot, he’s a pleasure to work with, listens to the coaches and puts in the work. We are all pleased with how he is training and if he keeps it up, he’ll be playing more for the first team.

DANNY MEAD IN FORM FOR U21's

16 year old Danny Mead continued to live up to the hype and already has three goals out of five games for Everton U21's. Still studying for his GCSE's, the recently turned 16 year old was proving to be a handful for footballers almost 5 years older than him. This recent goal against Newcastle U21's was a particular highlight in Everton's 3-1 defeat.
