“We are a club trying to build something. We were on a path for a couple of years and of course we’ve had to come off that path since the summer....."

So it was by necessity, totally natural... and "of course" ...and not their fault that they've "had to come off that path".
I wonder if Clatttenburg will give his holiday mate Slippy a hand tonight as it seems he will be getting a game.

How has he signed twenty-five (25!) players and managed to end up with a worse squad?? Never mind the transfer fees paid, most teams could sign 25 players on a free and end up being able to pick a better team than what they've currently got.

It's an absolutely staggering achievement.

talking to a red in work yesterday and his argument to spending 120 million was 'net spend the same as yours'. Couldnt fathom how that worked as i pointed out they sold one player and let another go and replaced them with 10 others. Not quite the same as 2 frees , a striker and a nominal fee for a midfielder.

Thats right, we spent hardly anything :p

but seriously, for that 120 million they could have signed remy, paid sanchez more money or signed someone else in to play the winger, a good defender, moreno and can and still had change left over for ballotelli. Smaller squad but sign eto'o as well and they have a better first 11 which can play the tactics of last year.

Not complaining about how it worked out like, just saying. Like Carroll for 35, Aguero for 39.

a rs said to me that he'd rather have both Balo+Markovic together than Sanchez. Laughable

And you're surprised? Liverpool FC always have the best players, best fans, best stadium, best atmosphere, best away support, best tea lady, best music at half time, best looking WAGs, best canteen food, best pies, best beer, best kits, worst luck and best manager in the league (apart from when it's Hodsgon).

Looks like Brendan is enlisting his media allies to deflect blame and cover himself. You'd have to have the intelligence and naiveté of a six year old to believe this revisionist nonsense. So I suppose he will keep their supporters onside for a while. This is going to get very ugly. They're already drawing parallels to the Rafael Benitez situation, where he was 'forced out and we didn't know what all was going on behind the scenes, etc'

A couple of their more cynical posters over at DPRK ( Democratic People's Republic of Kopites) see right through it but most are desperate for any justification to absolve the manager and blame the shadowy and nebulous transfer committee.

It's all beautiful. Well, for us United and Everton fans especially. And all of the other club's supporters who can't stand Liverpool (so that's 99% of non-Liverpool supporting football loving folk then!)

They have decent owners now, it should be pointed out. They've spunked tonnes of cash on players since being there and are (apparently) marketing the club pretty well.

But in Liverpool land, especially at RAWK - it's never the manager's or players' fault. You HAVE to blame the owners when everything goes to s**t. And that's what is happening right now.

Look at West Ham. Look at Southampton until recently. Look Swansea. They're all doing pretty well and they didn't get the luxury of spending £215 million over the last 2 and a half seasons. The irony of all this is, when Moyes was managing us (and yourselves, actually) Kopites left, right and centre were loving it "He's an awful manager", "Moyes is out of his depth!", "Moyes is a dinosaur" etc. And they were probably right, even our own were saying it. But when it comes to Rodgers, Kenny, Benitez - all of the ones that have failed, and there are many - it's "Our owners don't understand this club" and "We will never compete because of the oil clubs" etc. They get sucked in by any manager that comes in and comes out with the cliched drivel that will ensure fans get behind you at Liverpool "This is the greatest club in the world, the fans here are unique - they deserve the best, they're the most knowledgable supporters in the world." That's all you've got to come out with and they LAP IT UP.

Rodgers has done this and now they're stuck with him. Deep down, even the most deluded Kopite will have had a think about it by now - not good enough for Watford, not good enough for Reading, never won a trophy as a player or manager (a stick they used to beat Moyes with) and playing god awful, turgid football after spunking TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN MILLION QUID on new players since being at the club.

It's glorious. They'll all turn on each other, the owners, Ian Ayre, the tea lady - everyone but not Brendan Fraudgers. And I hope it goes on for a few years. But it won't - the owners won't put up with it. Rafael Benitez will be back by next summer. Or a manager like De Boer or Koeman.

Reading that link on RAWK, it would seem that James Pearce has radically changed his opinion on Rodgers and the Transfer Committee since this piece Ive linked which he wrote only seven months ago. Rodgers says in this he has the first and last word on buys. Subsequently therefore, in vintage BR land, it would appear that should the buys not work out or materialise even, according to the new damage limitation trend, they'll be deemed buys the committee has interfered with. More fool the RS, falling for the Emperors new clothes scenario again.

But but but they won the 2nd place trophy last season!

The difference with Everton supporters is that we blame the owners (and Hibbert/Osman) even when we are winning!
