Korean obviously wants him and has tasked Walsh to secure his signature, forget what you football manager nerds think. These men are playing the game in real life and will either sink or swim on their decisions to buy him. If he wants to sell an underperforming local lad with an attitude to fund this, then let him sell Barkley, I'd rather have a cracking lad like Tom Davies with a great down to earth attitude than a smell my fingers I poked your bird Barkley. Onwards and upwards in the Koeman revolution ;););)

Rom is not the finished article, young, and a large chunk of that money is based on his potential. Same with Pogba.

Sigurdsson is what he is. He's not going to get better. He's peaked.

To me we're talking top tier level finances for a player who is good but not top tier.

That's what I think a lot of people have a problem with.
Yes I understand that, but you are talking about Gylfi at a 50% discount to Rom. So in this case the "large chunk" that you speak to is pretty much accounted for in that discount.

TBF though I don't know that I believe Rom is that far off of his peak. I think a 25 a season striker is exactly what he is. There is nothing -absolutely nothing - wrong with that, but i just don't know that he will add that much more to his game.

I don't like the fee for Gylfi, but I guess my point may be more that i think the market is truly what i don't like. In a market where Kyle Walker is worth 50 and Rom is worth 90 then sadly Swansea may not be out of their gourds for asking for 45....

oh god what does kim jong eun want with him?

City are paying £100 million for a couple of full backs. It puts 45-50 million for Siggy into more perspective. If we really want him, we'll get him. Its nothing to do with idealism and 'the Everton way' or even 'the sensible way'. Its just the way football is today. A simile for you...'top pop stars' used to perform at the Empire in front of 2000 people, now they perform in front of 25-60 thousand people in arenas. BECAUSE OF THE MONEY.
Dave...if players are earning £150k a week, this puts a massive premium, most of the time, on what they cost to 'buy'.
Sadly, this is spot on.

Got nothing against Barkley, and if he wants to stay I'd be delighted, but I would love to see him be challenged by someone like Sigurdsson. He's had none of that for the last 5 seasons.

Well they may have been on a list he left behind, but last Summer he was paid by Everton.

He joined Everton late July.

He signed a new contract with Leicester in May after winning the league. He would have made plans early last year for the squad and after them winning the league he would have made more to expand the squad for the champions league.

His fingerprints and DNA are all over them signings.
