1950s relegation

What was the Goodison atmosphere like back in those days. Was ownership of the club still an issue or did the fans not care for that kind of thing and only worry about what was happening on the pitch? How much was admission back in those days as well?
@chicoazul is having you on mate, he could not even remember our title win over Fulham in his match preview ..... v them this season .... :D

My old fella was at Oldham the night we returned in 1954,from what he told me,we virtually had the same team, year in,year out back then, but there wasn't the huge chasm between players and fans, the fans stuck with the team through the good and bad, even when we returned we had the same team pretty much and my dad always laughs about fellas named Juliessen,Pinchbeck even Harry Catterick,Tommy the bonecrusher Clinton full backlollollol
So was I Dario, what a night, especially coming home, us up them down made it a night never to forget.

I saw those players, we got our transfer money back on Albert Juliessen, turned out he varicose veins, only Everton even then!! You could had Jock Dodds, Oscar Hold, Billy Higgins and Jimmy McIntosh to those lists of strikers.

As for the climate around those times we had struggled since football began again in 1946, I started watching the first team in 1948 when they got beat by Arsenal 2-0, with Joe Mercer in the Arsenal team, I doubt if we were in the top half of the table before we eventually went down in 1951 after a 6-0 hammering by the team who went down with us Sheffield Wed.

Your dad was correct Dario we won promotion in 1954 with exactly the same squad we were relegated with, not one player was bought during those three years and there was no FFP to stop them.

By the way I was in a chip shop in Everton Brow when I heard the sad news, I was ten, never stopped me going to The Derby picture house in Scotland Road that night, forget what was on!!

The Goodsy Park atmosphere was electric with a fierce toffees crowd getting the chaps from minute 1. Ownership wasn’t a problem as fans didn’t have Excel and nor did the fans care they were just there for the spectacle. Admission was one and six.

Sorry about @Joey66 he has the dementia.

Sadly true.

Brought on by inhaling the fumes of the super skunk for years, whilst tending to his crop.

My dad went twice and didn’t see a game! First one called off by fog, then locked out of the game to clinch promotion!!!

FWIW he said relegation was terrible -a disgrace- but he just thought they would bounce back. Also said it was sort of worth it to come back up as RS went down and he got to loads of new grounds in Div 2.
But in fairness he was saying this around 1970 when we were boss again which I think coloured his comments a bit.
Sounds like "Everton that"runs in your family just like mine mate ;) lol lol lol lol
