1995-2020 = the longest barren spell without silverware in Everton's history

I can’t recall much in terms of Football before the age of 5 or 6, in which case there will be blokes touching 30 who haven’t had that pleasure.
My first real memory was at 9. So yeah you are looking at fans being in their early 30s that haven’t seen a trophy win.

We simply have to end this in the near future. If we can end it then multiple trophies could flow after it. We need to be putting ourselves into a position to compete every year for the league cup and FA Cup. Then at some point an easy run will open or we’ll pull off a big win and end up getting it. When you’re going out to the likes of Southampton Millwall Swansea Norwich etc. Then no chance. Because the one time we would then go far we’d end up with City in a semi and then have to wait another 5 years or so to make another quarter final. We need to be making the latter stages every season if possible. If we’re not drawn away to a top 6 team then there should be no reason for us to be going out:

Was the League Cup the first trophy that Chelsea won under Abramovich & City under Mansour? They target the Cups every season, we don’t but the Europa League via the Cups is our best chance of getting in the Champions League.

We should be aiming at a quarter final every season and semi final every other season as minimum requirements. That puts you in positions where you can pick up the odd piece of silverware every few seasons. That'd change perceptions and expectations inside and outside of the club.

I would not expect this to unduly effect league performance. The only reason to not go for the cups is if there is a chance of doing well in the league and the squad is stretched.

Think for city it was the FA cup v stoke. For Chelsea it was the 2005 League Cup.

In the last 15 years the F.A cup has been won twice by teams outside what you would consider as the top 5

Portsmouth 2008
Wigan 2013

The league cup twice

Birmingham 2011
Swansea 2013

The Premier League 1 team has managed to break the dominance of the big clubs (Obviously we know who that is)

The top 6 clubs dominate on all fronts and it's god damn hard to win anything with the money the top clubs spend year on year

It's only recently we've started spending anywhere near what the teams at the top spend, It's hardly a shock we've gone so long without winning anything when you consider what we've had to deal with regarding transfer budgets when Moyes was in charge for over a decade

Even under Moyes and Martinez though there were opportunities to win trophies because we put ourselves there. If we’d won that penalty shoot out to Fiorentina we would have had a chance, the Wigan QF we had a chance, Martinez getting to 1-1 against United in the cup semi with Palace in the final. All of them big chances to win trophies. Yeah they didn’t go our way but the point is that in this seasons we actually beat teams we should have been beating to give ourselves that chance. If we did that most seasons then we’d end up taking one of them. The problem is too often we go out to lower league or lower prem teams even at home because we played weaker teams. It’s absolutely unacceptable.

Ok if we get seen off at one of the top 6 away but anything else is an under performance. City won the FA cup this season and they barely played anyone decent. We need to be taking advantage of cup runs and start competing for trophies season after season.

We suck, what can I say? But I do think we're really trying to head in the correct direction now, so if it's 25 years then so be it, but hopefully that changes soon. We have a squad capable of winning the odd cup, we just need a few additions and a change in attitude which I reckon is already happening.

Shocking that it's never been won before.

Nothing worse than when you see a reserve side being picked for games in it too like silva did this season. Or is it last ? !
Needs to take this comp serious, forget all this rotation stuff just go for it. I don’t buy in to all this oh players need to rest, rest them by giving them a day off training then and put the strongest team out as possible.

It all starts with the manager. He needs to be the one who takes the cup competitions seriously. Realistically it will be hard for us to break in to the top 6 so why not give the cup competitions a real go. Not only does it give the players a lift but it gives all the supporters a lift. I actually think our squad is good enough to beat any team in the cup competitions, especially if drawn at home.

It starts with the Chairman and it was all about Blue Bill. Moyes was never pushed to win things just to keep us up and turn a profit. From Dunne and Ball through Rooney to Lescott and Stones, heaven knows how much money rolled in. What has captured this era ? Gazza +Ginola "it was like a Joseph audition" at the Empire. Luckily I remember the eighties and just about the 1970 team. I feel really sorry for those who have had to do school years since 1990.

Think its why I get so frustrated with the club at times - Im not old enough to have fully appreciated / being involved in the best part of our history and add to that my kids have/are growing up with their first memories being us knocked out the FA Cup by a last minute Andy Carroll goal, constant cock ups and derby defeats whilst red family members celebrate cup finals, CL football and the odd trophy.

I think the arl arses old enough to have celebrated in the 70's and 80's dont appreciate how hard/frustrating it is being a Blue from a slightly younger generation.
