At times in recent seasons, our midfield has consisted of Neville and Osman - at the same time. Not many midfielders in the league that couldn't dominate those two.

Why would we pay an "inflated' fee for a player who isn't worth it, instead of £10m for a player who is actually worth the money.

You've even said it yourself - inflated price, as in, not worth the money, overvalued.

I think he's an upgrade from Jelavic.
Will be easy to get him once Lennon is confirmed as our new manager :P

Let's say we sold Fellaini and Heitinga for a combined total of £29M, and brought in Lescott, Fer and Donovan for around £18M (8+8+2 for them respectively, that's probably excessive, but I'm playing it safe here) that'd 'potentially' leave £11M for a striker, *IF* we were allowed to spend it all that is.

Bear in mind we'd have lost Neville, Hitz, Fellaini and Heitinga. But, we'd have brought in 3 players with one returning from loan in Gueye, and 'potentially' a new striker coming in.

It's a bit more 'realistic', in that we have previous with 2 of them and were/are heavily linked with the other. Donovan, Mirallas and Pienaar would all be interchangeable and could provide some much needed help/cover on the right hand side.

With the TV money coming in (provided we have access to some of it) we could then add more in the January window. We'd have decent cover in the likes of Osman, Hibbert, Barkley, Nasimith etc all of whom are familiar with us and could slot in for subs, injuries and suspensions. And Lescott and Donovan wouldn't need to overly familiarise themselves with our squad.

Transfermarkt says Lukaku joined Chelsea in summer 2011 for £18m. Since then, he has steadily established himself as legitimate premiership striker with 14 goals and 7 assists (according to the same site) whilst on loan at WBA. He has three more years left to run on his current contract with Chelsea. There is simply no way that he will go anywhere this summer for less than £20m. None.

Whilst I would love to see him join Everton, I would NOT want to see us put down that kind of money on any one player, because it would involve us putting all our eggs in one basket. So if we could get him loan I would say yes - but why would Chelsea loan him to a team trying to break into fourth place?
