2015 post UK election discussion

Hard to argue against anything Blair has said in his Observer article tomorrow. Echoes much of what I said earlier in the thread.

Christ I am getting worried, find myself agreeing far too much with Blair of late.

Yes, I can see exactly why it would. But I also consider that one of the more obvious consequences of a couple having a child is that the combined earning capacity of that couple instantly drops, doesn't it?

Of course it does. When we had our first child my wife stopped working completely, it certainly focuses the mind......

My parents were truly conservative (small c) working class who were comfortable in their existence and saw no need for change (my brother is the same).

Me, I'm a risk taker, despite my "moderate" approach on here, have always loved the thrill of risk.
There's risk and then there's RISK though. In my mind, at least. The risk of not being able to provide for my own child is one I'm simply not prepared to take - it's just not comparable to the risk of buying an expensive car (for instance) and hoping you can keep up with the finance payments, because in that scenario the car doesn't suffer if it all goes wrong.

Can you see that someone who thinks like I do (as best as I can explain it) would resent paying extra in taxes to cover those who have taken the risk you describe, only for that risk to go wrong? I would view it as a kick in the teeth, punishment for my own prudence. For anyone that thinks along these lines, the contrary is not something we would EVER vote for.

I give up!
Everyone who has mentioned kids has said that's the point where they knuckled down and started working both left and right voters. It's a fact.

Closing their eyes to these problems is the reason why people can't trust Labour. They ignore these issues and instead revert back to shaming those that highlight them.

Fully understand, but life is a strange beast and you only get the one chance, this is not a rehearsal........

Yeah, wow, thanks for fighting this good fight on our behalf. I just want you to know that you sound in no way like a frantic bigot jumping up and down and pleading that we all see how right you are.

Single parent families are very dangerous to society. Okay.....
Clint, I know you and I disagree about almost everything. That's just the way things seem to be, and I can deal with that. But do you honestly think that you persuade anyone to give more credence to your way of thinking when you don't even explain it? Pointing at someone and calling them a bigot doesn't counter their point in any way - it makes it clear that you disagree, but it stops there.
