Name one? I wouldn't mind doing a bit of research to see how they solved that problem because its the very reason in a nutshell why I don't believe in socialism.

The Nordic countries have had brushes with Socialism (although a very different kind than is advocated here) and they don't seem particularly corrupt.

I think there's a bit of right and wrong in everything. I find socialism to be a flawed and unworkable ideology, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have some merits.

I don't have time to go into all this again, having gone into it massively in the old thread. I have been involved in lots of studies on this issue and in particular the long-term social and economic consequense of the deterioration of communities as a result of unaffordable housing. Safe to say I know my onions.
To answer point 3, The touchpaper was the sell off of council houses.
But the reason why they're unaffordable would be because the area is improving not deteriorating. I can't afford to live in my parents area either.

Which is why single parent families are so dangerous to society. The men don't then need to work to provide for them.

How you fix that issue I don't know however let's agree that it is a huge and growing issue.

The fix is in getting people to understand there is a standard of living better and attainable than that of benefits.

For it to be attainable there has to be Government intervention in terms of offering opportunity either to the couple (assuming the Dad is around) or to the Mother as carer of her child.

We have to lift levels of expectation amongst the poorest in society. Private capital will not do that - it has to be part of a investment programme in people, funded by tax payers.

Ok I thought you might mention Scandinavia.

They have oil and the oil just like debt both personal and government under Labour masks the economic issues with socialism. When the oil runs out then we will see.

I guess it depends upon your motivation, for me I only truly became incentivised to maximise my income earning potential when I knew no.1 was on the way.

Before that we were just enjoying ourselves, probably spending more than we earned to be honest.
Psychological differences in motivation do seem to be a factor. I want the money already saved up to tide us over if either one of us cannot work for any prolonged period - I was raised that way by a very working-class father.

It is valid, of course, and was not a criticism for taking a sensible approach. But having a child provides an incentive of it's own to push you on......
Yes, I can see exactly why it would. But I also consider that one of the more obvious consequences of a couple having a child is that the combined earning capacity of that couple instantly drops, doesn't it?

I did make it clear that their version of socialism is very different.

Listen, I am not a fan of socialism at all, it is an illiberal ideology, but I really do think you're being a bit over the top.

My parents were truly conservative (small c) working class who were comfortable in their existence and saw no need for change (my brother is the same).

Me, I'm a risk taker, despite my "moderate" approach on here, have always loved the thrill of risk.

That's what lots of childless couples say, then they get used to having the money and still have no kids.......
I actually agree. If you have kids you just need to accept a drop in living standards and you shouldn't wait. I've also no problem with child benefit for working couples.
