First disappointment: forgot they don’t sell beer at European games
2nd disappointment: seats weren’t the best (Lyon game)
3rd disappointment: we were sh*t
4th dissapiontment : we were sh*t and lost

Did Koeman not even bother going to one of the matches? I know Unsworth brought a ton of his kids to one and I think they actually won but was Koeman sacked by then?

Koeman was gone after the 3rd game when that fan hit the Lyon keeper. He was looking like he was living in his car by that point, unshaven unkempt.

Remember the away game to Atalanta well. Was away with work in Köln. I headed out in the torrential rain and cold to search for an Irish pub to watch it. Took ages to find one that showed the game. Soaked, I finally I sat down to find out I was sat next to a Atalanta fan. We were the only two in the whole pub bothered about the game. I started out confident we’d win! That said I don’t follow Italian football... Over the course of the game the Italian bloke was more and more ecstatic as they ripped us to shreds. We had no answer.

Looking back at our Europa League campaign back in 2017/18 really does show what could have been *if* we got our recruitment right.

Both Atalanta and Lyon are now in the CL quarter-finals. We’re finishing bottom half of the table, yet spent ridiculous money since then.

If only someone had a time-machine with all the answers to who we should’ve signed etc.

So I put it to you GOT. Who should we have signed? Who would’ve taken us on the upwards trajectory that our two Europa League rivals have taken?

I often lie awake at night wishing I had that quantum leap machine to jump back in time putting right things that went wrong. I’ve mentioned it a tonne of times on here, but Robertson and Maguire definitely. At the time I wanted Mitrovic, not a quality signing but better and cheaper than Tosun, and would probs have got at least 10 a season I reckon.
But if I were to go back I’d advise to get Neves, Traore, Robertson, Maguire, Richarlison (total of about £45m I think from their actual transfers= 1x Sigurdsson!)...use the Keane money to get Salah, and then all the wasted transfer money left to throw at Soton for VVD and just give them Williams.
