Lots of virtue signalling in here today. Nobody doubts the gravity of gambling addiction and the horrors it causes. Any addiction. However saying you'll end association with the club, is somewhat juvenile. Just don't buy the merchandise but avoidance completely is cutting your nose off to spite your grid !

No mate. There's only so much one person can do. If the club has a sponsor I don't like then I can make my opinion felt and refuse to spend my money on the shirt for example. It's not me saying I'm going to boycott the club because of the sponsor. The club does good things in the community, lots of outreach to people who are struggling and it just smacks a bit that our new sponsor could well be a crypto gambling company.

It's a bit of a lame "gotcha" to say I don't like gambling but support a club with a gambling sponsor.

I think, in my experience, that gambling is far more addictive than alcohol. I'd rather neither. Money is the root of this crap - the clawing grabbing greed of every club to sell their soul just to keep up with the next club doing the same. Long gone are the days of a local steel stockists being able to afford sponsorship.

While that may be true, as a societal issue, alcohol is a much bigger problem.

If we were writing laws from scratch now, there’s no way it would be legal.

I just find it interesting that the levels of outrage on the two types of sponsorship is way out of whack.

It's proportional. There are many more cases of alcohol related issues comparing to gambling but then there are many more people who drink alcohol without issue compared to gambling.

Also alcohol sponsorship has already ended so that battle is won.
