2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

We’ve been lucky to mostly play sides worse than us since Moyes came in

Still a pretty big gulf between us and the decent sides, as today has shown

The next 9 points we’re going to need might take longer than we’d like
I'm pretty negative but I'd be shocked if we need 9 points. 4/5 should do it

Today in the relegation thread I learned that Villa, Spurs and Brighton are all worse than us.
I thought Spurs were so bad that we should be looking to finish ahead of them?

Wasn’t that why folks were spaffing when Leicester beat them?

And Brighton haven’t been playing that well recently either, even though they’ve usually been decent?

as for Villa; “mostly” apparently means “all” now

Well you were saying Spurs were better than us and we had no chance of catching them back when Leicester beat them so what’s changed here?

And what about Brighton and Villa?

Basically the only team we’ve played that are worse than us is Leicester. A comical thing to say really, wasn’t it.

Did I?

When?

I think I said that if we just focus on winning games and building a gap between us and the teams below us then the rest will sort itself

Addressed the other sides in the edit

Your problem, and folks like you, is that you’re misrepresenting the way quite a few people in this thread post, myself included

You present anyone with even a modicum of caution or concern as an hysterical bed wetter who thinks relegation is imminent, which just isn’t true

If you view my posts in the relegation threads over the past few seasons, there’s been little to no hysteria going on

However, if it isn’t a rah-rah speech with an accompaniment of bunting, your default stance is that the person is crying or losing their arse

I know nuance and the internet are two things that don’t ever mix, but when you’re treating every bit of caution in this thread as a white flag of surrender, then ultimately it only makes you look blinkered at best and a prick at worst

We’re in a good position right now and most of the work has been done, but yesterday is a bit of a wake up call that we’re not going to stroll over the line

Ever since the Leicester game I’ve been a lot more optimistic about our chances, but there are still some tough games on the horizon and we’d be wise not to put up the bunting before the job is done

You can, and likely will, call it bed wetting to say that, but that doesn’t make you right

What on earth are you talking about Mikey? Apart from Leicester, literally every single team we've under Moyes is better then us!

Spurs and Brighton may have better squads mate, but neither really turned up on the day when they played us. Spurs got their two goals because we gifted them and Brighton had a meh afternoon

Bournemouth played to their actual level yesterday and did us quite comfortably

I’m not saying it’s panic stations or anything, but yesterday shows what can happen if a better team shows up to Goodison and actually plays that way

I still think we can do it, but expect a few more afternoons like tomorrow along the way

We only probably need 3 wins out of 15 (if that) when we’ve just won 3 in a row, I know most of the teams we have to play from now are better than us but I think we’ll have enough in the tank as long as we can avoid injuries to key players.

Loads of teams have failed to turn up against us this season mate. And we failed to capitalise on almost all of then under Dyche. I'm not going to give Moyes a hard time for beating better teams them us because those teams weren't on form when we did.

I’m not giving Moyes a hard time

This is part of the issue

People are finding meanings that aren’t there in some of the posts that are being made

Your orignal post said we where lucky to play sides worse then us. Its not true but it wouldn't matter if it was because all that would prove is that we're capable of taking advantage of better teams on the day. Slip ups will happen and unlike before we're capable of taking advantage of them. Another three wins could he right around the corner.

And how is that giving Moyes a hard time?

It’s merely pointing out that we’re still not a very good side and that if most of our opponents play to their level, then there’s still some slogging to do before we get there

All Moyes can do is get the players to go out there and give it a try, which he’s been doing

In no way was I criticising him, or really the players to be honest

All they can do is try, and they have been
