2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

That’s so true. Not to take away from Moyes. But aside from the addition of Alcaraz, who until recently has been a late match sub, Moyes has the same squad Dyche had. It’s who he chose to play and sit, where he played them and in what combination, and encouraged to press high and be attack-minded. Most managers should always be doing that. I’m glad he’s here. But what he’s doing is what they all do and that’s to be flexible to adjust strategy for each match, put the best squad forward, and make decisions without respect to egos, loyalty, and friendships.

2nd consecutive season where the promoted teams will get relegated. Still see people saying the league is poor, which is such a wild take.

The quality is evenly distributed outside of everyone in between the top 4 and the bottom 3. However, the quality of the top teams is very poor compared to what it has been in recent years, and compared to other leagues across Europe.

I wouldn’t say as a whole the league is poor, but it is very, very boring as a product.

Without doubt the top 4 or so aren’t as good as previous seasons.

It’s not a boring league though, lots of sides play cracking football,

I don’t know. I’m quite often bored watching it. Loads of sides just play the same formulaic way and cancel each other out. Results are quite often predictable and players are devoid of personality. Then you’ve got the whole VAR debacle. I reckon I’ve watched about 4 non Everton games this season, I personally think it’s a crap product.

All this talk of getting a couple more points to be safe do you think
West Ham , Spurs & Utd fans are saying the same thing
I wonder ?
One of Leicester or Ipswich would have to win every one of their home games and then win 1 or 2 away games as well when neither of them can get a point anywhere in the last 2 or 3 months. We’d also have to lose 9 in a row.

Have a feeling after our April of death we'll clinch safety by beating Ipswich on 3rd May, but it'll be a damn ugly 1-0 I reckon. Either way, we absolutely must not lose that one.

I think you're suffering from PTSD mate. We're safe now.
True. I'm gonna have flashbacks to that Bournemouth game until my dying day pal.

Sometimes in my mind Doucoure misses or Vina scores in injury time, we go down, and never secure the move to BMD. It lies there derelict, while 2023/24 becomes a dead loss due to a 12-point deduction from the EFL. All we manage with a shadow squad is mid-table, and by March 2025, we're bottom of the Championship and bound for League One.

There's other memories. In particular, I remember getting back to my gaff and seeing BURNLEY 3, EVERTON 2 flash up on my phone in April 2022. I sat there just slumped on the stairs, unable to move, unable to comprehend. I was absolutely sure that was it.

Having been through so much utter hell for the past 4 years, I don't take anything for granted.

It's mad that had Dyche stayed and we lost every game we would still be outside the relegation zone. Goes to show how terrible the bottom 3 are. We've been safe from around 26 points. I can't see them getting much more than 6/9 pints before the end of the season.
