2024/25 Relegation Thread

Can’t believe we lost to this Southampton side - I mean I can with Dyche in charge but even with Dyche in charge we should still be beating that shower.

If we’d have won just that game we’d be clear and away from the relegation scrap…

I can’t wait until we don’t have a manager whose tactics are based on cowardice.
Weve failed to beat them twice this season.

One of them they had a 2nd string team out

Thats how god dam awful our manager is

That’s fine, it’s just a difference of opinion, and believe me I wish I shared yours. I don’t get where this crazy confidence is coming from many. We are a mid table side on paper who is been set up by a terrible manager to steal a 0-0 draw every week no matter who we play. We are 3 points clear of the drop zone despite having far and away the easiest start in the league. The 2nd half of the season will be tough, all of this spells disaster for me unless the new owners pull a transfer and manager rabbit out of the hat.
See i’d actually say it’s you who’s got the crazy confidence here. I think the idea that we’re a midtable side on paper and would just be absolutely fine with another manager is displaying a lot of confidence in a side who haven’t done a huge amount to earn it.

I think that’s where the difference of opinion on dyche comes in for most people - nobody thinks he’s actually amazing, it’s just case of where you think the teams baseline level is. For me I think it’s somewhere between 12th and 16th so I think we’re underperforming but not massively. If you think we should be sort of 8th-10th kind of thing then it obviously the underperformance is quite significant, but seeing as we haven’t finished above 10th for 5 years and since then have made a net profit in every transfer window I really struggle to understand how that could possibly be our base level.

This time last season we had 16 points and had also been given a 10 point deduction. So we’d actually won 26 points on the pitch. I’m interested to find out how we can possibly be looking at this team being 11 points worse off at the same stage of the season as being just fine and expected. We haven’t weakened the team by 11 points.

That and Bournemouth. We’d be well looking up instead of down

That was a high watermark though wasn't it mate?

I mean, I'm quite a positive guy, but I don't think we are that good.

That’s the thing for me. We have lost a couple of games or whatever in ten or something which seems really creditable but the problem is we are stuck like a limpet at the bottom of the table. A win is massive down at the bottom of the table but Dyche just plays the percentage of getting a point a game. Might pay dividends in the long run but it is a risky business and does nothing for the blood pressure

Well no of course because if you thought we were that good then you’d have to admit that this manager is underperforming this season. You either think we fluked the points last season, in which case we can put the manager’s credit for that in the bin, or you think we are severely underperforming this season in which case the manager should be criticised for that.

I didn’t say it was fine and expected, I literally said I believed we were underperforming. Last year we were probably above what I’d think of as the baseline and this year we’re below it, it’s pretty simple really.
