2024/25 Relegation Thread

For all the talk of a much stronger league this year, our win yesterday is the only win in the current bottom 6, with 35 matches played between us. Another win or two in the next run of games will go a very, very long way.
There are some very poor teams in this league.

We just need to hope we arent 1 of them.

I think we have the players, we just need a manager that can get the best out of them.

But you are only ever as good as your last game in this league and yesterday I thought the Gaffer did well.

Ipswich have only been beaten by City and the other lot, so they’re not getting rolled over really and they managed a clean sheet at Brighton, so they’re not too bad defensively. Southampton, Wolves and Palace have struggled much more so far.

Ipswich are far more positive in how they play than Leicester so I think that will translate to wins as the season goes on.

Southampton are the only one of the promoted teams to be complete no hopers with their style imo.

The 3 promoted squads for last season went back down with a combined 66 points. Luton was best at 26. Zero chance that will repeat and you have to expect that finishing with 35 or less is potentially fatal to staying up. I think Branthwaite keeps them up, but I would feel a lot better if they can get to 20 points by Christmas.

…obviously, the further into the season the more it settles. Christmas is an obvious indicator but I’m talking of early benchmarks.
The difficulty with assessing it too early is that schedule is often the primary explanation. Bad teams can easily go through very bad stretches when matched against the top 6-8 sides. At some point the bottom 6 play each other and that is when you need wins, especially at home.
