One or two games in Uruguay to commemorate the centenary as part of a larger South American tournament is perfectly acceptable

Agreed, but Uruguay is larger than Qatar, which has just hosted a world cup (only difference is Qatar was 32 teams).

If Australia do bid, it will be a joint bid with New Zealand, same as the womens world cup.

However, the president of the AFC has already come out and said Asia will be supporting the Saudi bid, so not much point anyone else bidding for it.

It is a clever move by FIFA, exclude everyone else from bidding, so that SA is the only bid they receive. The Saudis must have paid a lot to smooth their path in such a way

And does anyone know the reason they gave for Paraguay getting a game? I can understand Uruguay and to a lesser extent Argentina as they were in the first final, but what is the relevance of Paraguay?

The Saudis have ten years to cure the problem, and they're already throwing money at their domestic league like mad. If they grow that league, they'll need the stadiums anyway.

Read an interesting argument the other day that they're doing all this because they have a ton of foreign nationals working over there, so they're trying to create a distraction and emotional outlet to quell potential domestic unrest.

Only reason Paraguay have it is because they were part of the original three-way South American bid.

Perfect time to ferment rebellion and go after infantino. UEFA, the 2 American associations, Australia etc and the Asian big hitters are football. Who would watch a tournament without them.
