Just utterly boggled at the standard of officiating at this tournament, I have never seen anything like it.

In general, it seems like FIFA's orders are 'let them play and let VAR sort it out', which introduces a pair of problems. First of all, the 'clear and obvious error' standard means that, at the margin, people get away with stuff. That, in turn, leads to more cynical fouling.

Perhaps more importantly, it lets FIFA put a thumb on the scale should they so choose.
