4 points off 4th

Gahhh. People need to just get real here. We are NOT going to finish 4th or higher this year. It just isn't going to happen.

Not so much because of the undeniably tough games that we have, but BECAUSE WE BOTTLE IT EVERY TIME WE GET CLOSE. Have you all memories so shallow? don't you remember back just 3 games ago?

Our run-in could be the bottom 7 clubs and I would still take the same outlook. It isn't about the teams in front of us, it's about the team in blue, and we just haven't got it mentally.

We have finished 4th before, though.

Yes, and then bottled it in the CL qualifiers. So what good did it do us?

Why do you think we won't do it again this year and bottle it in the qualifiers again then?

It's like the fa cup, we all know we'll choke at some point but it might be the round of 16, or the quarters or the semi when it actually happens. That's the fun of it.

I think it's the mentality of the players. Do they think they are the 4th best team in England?

I would replace players with club, myself. I think the manager, the board even the fans don't demand success.

If we finish 6th or 5th everyone will think that's a job well done.

Yeh that's pretty much the club as a whole summed up. A bit more belief in ourselves probably would have turned those draws into wins. Mentality has a lot to do with success.

5 away games and 3 home games aint easy.
the 3 home games are must wins , 4 of the 5 away games are our main competition spurs arsenal liverpool chelsea - even less easy . some wins will be very handy but there all 'must no lose'.
tough matches for our rivals
chelsea - spurs
liverpool - chelsea
spurs - man city
arsenal -man utd
man utd - chelsea

chelsea have tough games , but a win for us against spurs will really make them sweat too.
but we really have to beat liverpool imo
could be moyes greatest acheivment in the next 8 games if we get 5th or higher imo

PHP:
5 league games, given we beat reading before the wigan game. 4 actual games. But honestly as long as we beat qpr, sunderland, fulham and west ham, we don't need to beat spurs. 2 wins and 2 draws out of the four games at chelsea, liverpool, arsenal and spurs will probably do it, no matter where the 2 wins come.
Yeah as long as we don't lose to Spurs we should still be in the mix. All those teams are dropping points here and there -- no reason to expect that won't continue. The key is that Spurs (or Chelsea) don't get too far ahead -- four teams going after two places is much better than three teams chasing one place.

My concern would be setting up too defensively for Spurs. I think it will need to be fairly defensive but we can't be under siege for 90 minutes.

I actually don't mind the run-in. Makes us underdogs, puts our backs against the wall and should hopefully mean we don't take anyone lightly.

We've often complained that we show up for the top teams and then don't beat the teams we should. Well now it's lots of top teams.

I think there's been a change in the mentality of the players since the wigan game; they look like they really want it. It's not the same as a one off big occasion either

This is pretty much bang on.

It will be more or less the same team one would think and Gibson and Osman are going to have to play the game of their lives vs Spurs. I have,nt seen that yet this season with the only exception being the city game.

Spurs are odds on for me unless something happens in the Europa game on thursday.

It's not mentality or belief that makes you achieve what you want to achieve, it's knowledge and ability. I still thinks that's what lets us down more often that not. People talk about creating a winning mentality, but that comes from knowing what to do and why you do it, how it will help you win. Naturally an easy way to get this is by winning a trophy, then you know that what you've been doing works and can simply keep doing it. As a general rule though you're far more likely to get somewhere by coaching methods and systems that have fundamental principles, then the players have something to fall back on that tells them what to do. There are certain things that Everton always do under Moyes that achieve small advantages, but when it comes to basic principles that make you win the game, I don't think we have any.

Everton can beat the best teams on the day but sometimes you have to hold your hand up and say they have a better team and it showed. I think that is what will happen on Sunday hope I am wrong like but Moyes has no options on the bench and he can only go with what he has from last sat. Spurs have options all over the shop and that will be the differance ...oh for a few quid in jan.

I still think we have a good chance, especially with Spurs in Europe midweek, and Chelsea in the cup and Europe.

A lot of people will think, "Nonsense, we've got no chance". But there is a clear visible change in attitude.
Winning the last two game were massive, neither of them were pretty, but we did what we had to do.
Many time this season we've played pretty, fluid football and ended up with a bitter taste in our mouth at the end, the Fulham game is a good example.

Our defence has clearly tightened up, but we have to be careful with our passing. At Stoke we played a lot of poor passing, we can't give Spurs an easy ride.
Even if we do lose to Spurs, it's not over, Chelsea do have a tough run like us, and results will sometimes go for us, other weeks they won't.
