5 games to go - as good as it gets or can it be maintained?

Only one of those injuries came early enough in the season to be meaningful...and even that one could be said to have helped the situation by clarifying a game plan other than booting it long and downfield to Bolasie.

We were fortunate with injuries and suspensions this season. That's the truth of the matter.

I question the standard of these players. We can have twice the number of youngsters getting first team game time but IMO there is no standout breakthrough talent other than Davies, and to be honest that lad will never be top class either.

far better to have one or two start to come through who are going to be key for the progression of the club.
The injuries to Coleman have happened at the worst possible time Dave... the run in.
Losing two out of your back four in the one weekend when Everton are not even playing could hardly be considered fortunate.
Bolasie getting a twelve month injury shortly after arriving was equally unfortunate.

I think the addition of Coleman and Bolasie would have given us a very different type of team last Saturday.

Injuries happen, but this season we have four three players with major long term injuries and Funes Mori missing the last quarter of the season...not sure that is fortunate.

not enough quality in depth to mix things up. breaking into top five will be tough unless real money is available or we unearth some gems on the cheap. this is the summer that Walsh needs to prove himself more than any other

Not enough creativity to break down sides away from home. That was where we missed Bolasie and to some extent Deulofeu too. Add in Coleman's injury and it was basically asking Barkley to create everything every game.

In relative terms we have been extremely fortunate. Look at the injury pile up at Liverpool and United. And Arsenal have had long term injuries too.

We've had Bolasie out long term and McCarthy in and out the treatment room all season. And I wouldn't say either were key.

hahaha you're joking right? they are 14 behind us with 1 game in hand, got to play burnley city and Swansea away which I cant see them winning any and Chelsea at home, more chance of us going out and getting messi for free then them catching us
Hahaha yeah I am.. But what if we lose all our remaining games and west brom won theirs... Big if I know.. :p

United look as stubborn a side as there is. 6 points and a game in hand on us; I cant see us hauling them back. Arsenal are the ones who may still be caught if they have an eye on the cup final and so could come back to us.

That said, if we get beat against Chelsea I think it's a near certainty we finish 7th.

Yep, maximum points from the remaining games is the only way we stand a chance of finishing 6th, and even that is relying on those above dropping at least 2 points.

I can see us dropping 4 more points maximum, which would give us 66 points. It'd be difficult to get out of 7th with that tally.

Last 10 seasons have seen only three standout away records:

2007/08 = 8 away wins
2008/09 = 9 away wins
2013/14 = 8 away wins

The rest have been 4 and 5 wins...which we are bang on course for again this season.

A great away match record can be done. Even under a cautious manager like Moyes it could be done.

Koeman did better away from home with S'ton, so he can do it too...if he can handle the expectation levels at Everton and not set up to stave off defeat away from home to good teams...which is what happened this season as well as being clueless to break down the likes of Burnley, Boro, Hull etc.
He said himself that this summer will see HIS Everton team. Not the cast offs he's had to get shot of. HIS team. He's already improved on your hero (bar the 72 points like). I know yer a WUM Dave but it's hard not to argue back when you spout such bloody nonsense all the time. Obvs not just on about this post. All of 'em.

To improve we'd need better than 5th and 73 points.

Still, we have secured the record number of successive home wins since the 90s trophy.
