Roy Vernon's spell at the Blues was less than Baines .... as a designated pen taker - Bobby Collins took them for a long time ...

….Collins only ever took 10, Vernon 19 but maybe penalties were less commonplace in the 60’s. Baines conversion rate of 89% is excellent given he took 28, Vernon’s conversion rate from 19 penalties is close to 95%.

sharpy’s rate being that good has surprised me , I genuinely didn’t think he was as successful as that . I must have been nervous in my youth . I do remember being extremely confident when Beardsley stepped up and that proves why .

To be fair Baines missed in a league cup quarter shootout v Leicester too.

Missed one a few weeks earlier home to Hammers when we were 2-0 up. We lost 3-2.

Those two missed penalties cost us big time.
