6 + 2 Point Deductions

Would be interesting to know just how much City are worth to the EPL.
A lot is the obvious answer - United, City, Arsenal, Tottingham, Chelsea are all in the top 10 most expensive, alongside clubs like Real Madrid and the likes. Even guessing you'd think those teams, housing the best players in the world, are worth quite a lot.
The above mentioned are also the top paid (alongside Liverpool) from TV money/revenue every year. Even more so when you consider how every promo is basically from those teams' best moment and best players highlights, with the rest barely getting a mention.

That's without the obvious under the table money for other things that the FA definitely receives but hides from prying eyes.

So maybe not even "a lot", probably closer to "bend over backward for, priceless".

I get the players are a draw for fans innthe EPL, but the players aren't the club and can play for anybody if paid enough.

The EPL made truckloads of money before City were in the league and I'm not sure it has had a massive increase due to them specifically. What they need to maintain is a dominant group of teams in the worldwide game, so pong as its not a massive shift in that, like 4 of 6 being replaced, I doubt it will have much affect on the EPL brand or income. The biggest issue for me is politically. We have already seen the effect of political input with the Newcastle takeover. If the Govt. need continued investment in the surrounding area of the Etihad, they will doubtless ensure they are still in a good place to deliver that.

All in all, I don't think City will get what they deserve, but I'm juts not sure it's for teh reasons people think. Everything City have on the pitch can be re-allocated, they'll just want to keep the players in the league.

Jackson extends Chelsea contract to………2033 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Please Kev, offer Keane a contract til 2064 just to highlight the stupidity of it all.
It doesn't really matter as the contract can only be amortised across a maximum of 5 years anyway. All this means is that if he gets injured, he's golden for may years to come.

They had United, the most expensive brand in the world, before that, which they manufactured to an extent. The same way now City are being manufactured as "the biggest and the best" so that everyone knows them.

What will follow I think is the "English Classico" of United vs. City being marketed into existence.

My point is, City could be any team. They had it with United and Liverpool, and now City and Liverpool. Whichever teams are competing will be sold as rivals. UK rivals are usually locality based for UK supporters, but for supporters who have never visited the UK, or reside in China, US, Middle East etc., the locality of the team has little consequence. If City disappear, another team will be dropped into their place. There are some teams that this wouldn't work for, like United, Liverpool, Arsenal because many of their international fans are now multi-generational based off international dominance pre-EPL, City's international fan base are only like 10-15 years into their support and even that support is driven by the league they play in.

Just a comment on the 'Super League' people keep referring to. They have absolutely no intention of leaving their domestic leagues, and the 'Super League' was always only ever about making the Champions League a closed shop. The new format of the Champions League pretty much is the 'European Super League', it just doesn't guarantee eternal qualification for those that wanted to set up their own 'Super League'. Nobody wants to leave their domestic leagues, and the prospect of them doing so has never been on the table.
They shouldn’t have had a choice.

They should have been made to leave their domestic leagues, and still should if the ESL ever raises it putrid head again.

They should have also been banned from ever entering uefa competitions again, and have been sent to the foot of the pyramid in their country.

They wanted their cake and to eat it, with qualification in perpetuity no matter how they fared in their domestic leagues, in which they would have fielded the reserves to keep fresh the big stars for the ESL games - the domestic leagues and European competitions would have been lessened if their proposal went ahead, but in hindsight, I really wish every scab club had pissed off to the ESL and been ejected from every other competition.

Football is dead in its current form, that would have been a decent reset.

The hearing starts on Monday, are you suggesting it will take 6 months before we hear the verdict?
