6 + 2 Point Deductions

90mill losses for Leicester, I don't it should be forgotten how Rodgers waited to get sacked from a job he wanted to quit to get a chunk of that 90mill

Dont know how they managed it.

"What is perhaps most significant is the amount of money clearly being spent on wages. Despite a near £75m profit in player trading, the club still finds itself the best part of £90m in the red."

People always sleep on wages, as I keep saying Wages are the biggest spend any club makes every single season.

Yep, particularly in the modern game, virtually impossible to avoid. It makes for a difficult situation particularly if the wages to turnover ratio is going to replace the current PSR.

Obviously, wages will always rise as the larger clubs will offer more and more to attract players, in some cases a club will either have to stretch their finances to retain players or sign a replacement. The replacement needs to be of a certain standard. The issue is whilst in normal business conditions you can control wages costs due to there being a general industry wide wage range for specific positions, in professional sports its way to volatile to police without a salary cap which couldn't work due to competition with other countries throughout the world. Should football be a game of financial attrition?

We know PSR in both its current and proposed form is completely inadequate. If sustainability is a real priority then the focus should be

-Adequate vetting of potential owners
-Powers to rescind ownership in cases of owner maleficence/ineptitude/inaction.
-Powers to place at risk clubs under supervision where the league can approve major business decisions/review practices/make changes.
-Funds held in escrow/bond to provide for unforeseen circumastances
-Clear, uniform reporting requirements, kpi formulas for monitoring

Thats a start but at least it is more appropriate for sustainability

There should be no financial limitations at the top level. This is big boy football owned mainly by very rich people and syndicates. As long as the checks are good, you should be able to spend what you want. FFP makes sense at the lower levels. You want to give teams a more equal chance for promotion. All the current system does is create a group of 6 that are kept separate from the other 14 because they raised the drawbridge on spending after they were in the castle.

Agree, go back to the old way.

Pre FFP, it will sadly never happen tho.

do you believe in miracles?

FFP combined with PSR is the issue. If FFP rules were scrapped PSR rules make sense. If an owner can pump in any amount of money then the club remains profitable and sustainable. FFP rules are the ones that protect the richer clubs from further erosion of their privileged position as it protects them from more clubs doing the same as Chelsea and Man City by breaking into the ‘top’ clubs group through financial injection from wealthy owners.
