Heard any whispers or just wishful thinking?Takeovers or significant investment are rarely the ones in the headlines.
Yes but I don’t think we will have the headway some seem to expect. Like Newcastle prior to Ashley selling that allowed the Saudi’s to spend heavily. We are a loss making business. We will need to significantly increase revenues or cut costs (wages) to achieve that. In theory the new stadium should address but the amount of debt we are taking on could wipe out the benefits for the short/medium termPossibly mate and your theory plays out in the Gnonto chase (allegedly we were going to get him for under £50k per week), but the Gordon sale was pure accounting profit, much like the Cannon and Simms sales this year. That will offset some of the wage catastrophes, but by how much we won't know for a little while.
In either case, if we are anywhere close to £105 losses over the three years (including the one we are currently in), it would surprise me. But then, Everton are brilliant at surprising me in unpleasant ways
The last 2 accounts show a loss of 36m in 2022 and 106m in 2023.
Thats a loss of 142m.
We probably still make an operating loss and whilst we did have a positive spend regarding transfers, im not sure we are wiping 142m off the loss sheet next year.
But we should certainly be under the 105m losses allowed under FFP.
No, the loss was from 2021, no idea why I wrote 2023.Where have the 2023 accounts been published showing a 106m loss mate? Are those accounts even out?
Yes- it's the wage bill that's been crippling us in recent years rather than transfer fees. The long term consequence of big contracts to under performers like Gomes, Gbamin, Mina, Tosun etc. Thelwell has done some good work this summer in chopping a huge chunk off the weekly wage bill. We've lost;I think you will be surprised. Although we have been in profit from player trading our wages to turnover has been the worst in the league. This won’t be fully addressed until next summer when the remainder of the big deals for players not contributing end and if we are still in the PL I expect recruitment will be loans/purchases of younger players on lower wages
Don’t know how it’s really a good job when all he did was not offer them extensions; with the exception of Davies for which he didThelwell has done some good work this summer in chopping a huge chunk off the weekly wage bill. We've lost;
Mina (110k)
Townsend (50k)
Gbamin (80k)
Iwobi (100k)
Begovic (40k)
Davies (20k)
Maupay (50k)
Coady (50k)
Holgate (30k)
Vinagre (20k)
That's a remarkable £550k a week off the wage bill. We've only brought in Young, Chermiti, Danjuma, Beto and Harrison. Maybe £250k a week for them? That's a saving of £300k a week, £15 million a year. If we could somehow offload Gomes that would be another £5million saved. The legacy of crazy contracts and silly wages is finally coming to an end.
Simms, Cannon,
If we end up securitising years of new revenue streams for in stadium food and beverage for an upfront (discounted) cash payment then we have learnt absolutely nothing. Which would be both utterly unsurprising and depressing same time.I’ve heard that some of the decisions on corporate hospitality provision at BMD have been delayed after consultation with potential American investors.
True- maybe crediting Thelwell is a stretch! The main point stands though, that our wage bill is far more manageable than it was 12 months ago.Don’t know how it’s really a good job when all he did was not offer them extensions; with the exception of Davies for which he did
He gets credit for Iwobi, that was great business and Maupay was his mistake
Gomes, Dele and Keane are the other 3 big non contributors that end in the summer. Then you will be down to the likes of Godfrey and Holgate who are over payed. You don’t have players of this level at clubs like Brentford and Brighton earning 60/70k a week. Holgate probably earns more than Toney.
