I'd booked my coach for the Supercup, iircšŸ˜¢
I remember our last European Cup appearance in the 1970/71 season. In those days I had to read the results in my dad's Guardian the following morning. Imagine my disappointment when I read that a 0-0 draw away to Panathanaikos meant we lost on the away goals rule having drawn at home 1-1.

There are plenty of tragic stories in football and, although ours didn't involve any loss of life, the heartbreak of almost 20 years later - of what happened to Howard's double Champions - is one I will grieve as long as I live.

If we start checking ourselves for being an emotional fan base itā€™ll lead us down a worse path - that of apathy - and if that takes hold then we really are done for.
Fully agree. Which is why I clarified as I knew Iā€™d get the ā€œfans faultā€ accusation. Just saying in my opinion it does affect performances massively. But itā€™s not up to the crowd to try and be nicer, it HAS to be started on the pitch and the atmosphere changes over weeks and months slowly (makes me feel a bit sick, but I guess thatā€™s where he gets his change the story nonsense from).

Easiest time to do that is at the start of a new season, fresh optimism, sunshine, put in a few solid home performances. We blow it every year by treating the end of the transfer window as the start of the season.

It worked out, luckily but his fee, like Sigurdsson, like Bolasie, like Keane, like Klaasen, like Tosun, like Walcott, like Schneiderlin, like Gomes and so forth are the reason weā€™re in the deep and only 777 want to buy us outright

The problem is you're conflating two things and merging them into one which a few do on the forum.

You're linking the ability to spend big money with bad recruitment when it isn't cause > effect.

Had we signed 5x Richarlisons we wouldn't be in this mess but we didnt we unfortunately signed 1x Richarlison and Gbamin, Slomes, Bolasie, Toshun etc.

Newcastle have in the main recruited well but they've still spent Ā£35m on Botman, Ā£68m om Isak, Ā£45m on Gordon, Ā£30m+ on Liveramento, Ā£35m+ on Guiamares etc. Villa the same with Diaby, Torres, Carlos, Buendia, Bailey, Digne etc.

Recruitment needs to be better but you also need money if you want to compete for top 10 + Europe and this group dont have that. Therefore it'll just be more of the same.

100% this.

I felt robbed, still do and still bitter about it.

We had a great "road Trip" to Rotterdam with Southport branch of the Everton Supporters Club, best 3 days ever, that ferry trip on the way back was bedlam but so so memorable, so wanted to repeat that in the Super Cup.

we were destined for greatness, then ................

I recall being the same re the Panathanaikos result, old broadsheet newspapers iirc, spread out at the table while munching down cereal but just scanning back pages, I have a vague recollection of that match being televised and being allowed to watch it, i may be mixing up my matches here tho lol

It wasnā€™t televised mate. It was late afternoon UK time I think. Part of it might have overlapped with walk home from school.
And then we lost to the RS in FA Cup semi at OT. A terrible few days to be a Blue.

Ahh, my bad yes, afternoon KO, was the first leg on TV? That may be what im mixing up, few "Final Whistles" since then lol

Thanks for that link, great stuff, apart from a few results!

Was just a wee nipper and my old man took me when he could back then, but not all the time.

Lampard has identified the problem here:

No doubt he'll be criticised, but he's likely right I'd say

If he is right in identifying the fan base as part of the problem - then one of the key actions to help the club improve would be to improve the fan culture - as I've said for some time...

I don't think he's wrong, but also I don't think this is something that anyone can change. It's a fact when you're managing a fallen giant. The only reason there aren't many parallels is that there aren't many (any?) clubs that have been as successful as Everton during the pre-premier league period, but had such little success since.

What you need is a manager and players that can handle that, rather than the fans to change.

The problem is 777 already have accreditation to from the FCA through there work in basketball (it doesn't matter how badly that's going.)

They're accredited. The FCA isn't stopping this.

The PL? Unlikely. They'd rather roll the dice with 777 than see one of the founder members of the "Greatest league in the world" go into administration.

It's a mess, but I can't really see any other option that's readily available.

The MSP partial investment would have been a life ring to stay afloat, possibly leading to a takeover. That was kyboshed by Kenwrights mates.

777 are currently the only show in town and the clock is ticking.
I am not sure why you beleve this as neither the BBL nor 777 partners are on the FCA register

Basically, fans want to see us doing the basics and showing some passion.

They also have expectations of not being beat repeatedly by newly promoted teams.

Itā€™s hardly asking for us to win the league.

Funny things, went to Rhodes Island in Greece, about 4 years ago, went to a cracking little restaurant ordered our food. Git talking to the manager and he turned out to be a massive Panathanaikos fan. lol Only me, great meal though, talked about our match quite a bit.

I believe it because Dave Kelly (who I trust) was told by Don Dransfield (who I don't know, but it would be a foolish lie from someone in his position) that 777 had to go through the FCA approval/accreditation when taking the major stake in British Basketball and the London Lions.

The fact the BBL nor 777 show up in an FCA website search is irrelevant, neither does the Premier League, Everton or any other major UK sporting institution.

I'm paraphrasing here, but: "FCA approval will not be any problem."

If it's the straw you want to cling to, go for it.

Sack the fans?

Even if they have gone through FCA approval, the events with the missed BBL payment and Vasco da Gama occurred after.

I don't really know what will happen, but I don't think they would ignore two years of information.
