He was alright when he used to play football, personally i would leave him in footballing pergatory. I think Drenthe is approaching his Pienaars best goal and assist return for us after 3 and half full games.

We should have a look at James Forrest up at Celtic this lad looks like a serious player to me - or one we could develop into one - talented lad.

Baines made him look so, so much better than he is it's frightening.

Because he's playing in front of Assou-Ekotto or Walker, he doesn't have that same level of quality behind him and when he has played he's stuck out like a sore thumb because attacks stop dead when the ball reaches him.

He was never going to suit Spurs.

They've got a "horny helen" poster....

Is he? Pienaar got 8 assists in 08/09, we'll have to see if Drenthe can match that, I hope he does. Also Baines has gone from being the top assisting defender in each of the last three seasons to not having made a single assist yet this season.

Pienaar created 14 goals (in all competitions) during his first season here, with Joleon Lescott, a centre back, playing behind him. So much for Baines making him look good.

Disagree with that. Their partnership was the only main force of creative attack as the right side of our team was pretty gash.

They worked well as an effective pair as Pienaar created the space for baines to run into.

You can clearly see Baines hasn't looked particularly great since pienaar left.

I think you'd probably have to say that perhaps he recognised overlapping fullbacks as being in a better position to make the final pass. So when it was there with Baines he used it, when it wasn't there with Lescott, not so much. Maybe something like that.
