Honestly baffles me how people can’t see what he brings to the team
every loose ball he’s there winning it and trying to make things happen
If ever a player suited Everton it's Doucouré's all action style we love at Goodison, so he isn't Xavi on the ball, his energy is what we have lacked since gana left. He's relentless. Even at the end of games you'd swear he's only been on the pitch five minutes.
The thing I like most about this fella is that he never hides. Even if it's not going well for him he still keeps playing in the same way. He leaves it all on the pitch.
Right, so I've seen a lot of 'he was sh**e' from the social media brigade last night/this morning and (surprise surprise) think that's going way over the top..
Yes, he could've took care of the ball better at times and his passing was a bit wayward on a couple of occasions, but the way he breaks out of that second bank at pace to win the ball back in midfield cannot be understated, especially against the likes of your Southampton's who are capable of knocking it around that area quickly. It completely disrupts their rhythm and gets us back up the pitch more often than not and it's his work rate that drives it.
As I said last night, in a game where the turnover of the ball is high in midfield, Doucoure is a beast. Recall someone in the match thread last night saying that, if he could pass, he'd be worth closer to £75m and I don't think that's a million miles off really..
He does tend to look better when him not doing much is less of a problemHe's masked so much of our athleticism weaknesses in midfield. If he'd been injured for any length of time, I think the other midfielders would have been shown up more this season.
His passing has never been great, but I think he's been going through a patch lately where it's been worse than it usually is.
I do think he'll look better with more athletic players around him and less responsibility.
Interesting confession by Carlo, he did not want this player, it was a Brands signing but now Carlo thinks Doucoure is very good and glad to have him.
It was the same with Godfrey it was a Brands signing. Carlo pretty much said he didn’t know much about him when we signed him. Shows there’s trust from Carlo in Brands to allow him to sign players, I’m sure he will have been sold on the idea of signing them though.
