It was a weird decision to take him off tbh.
With Richarlison out I would like to see the system tweaked a bit, and think 4-2-3-1 (I know, I know) with Doucoure as an advanced midfielder could work against the Barcodes.
Gives us an extra runner into the area and two of Gomes/Allan/Delph can sit deeper.

He probably would’ve scored aswell if DCL had played him in instead of turning, and that was at 0-0. He was nowhere near as bad as people have made out yesterday, I was more disappointed with Allan personally
His passing isn't the best but there were a few times yesterday when his pressing got us on the front foot.
Nobody had a good game, it's fair to say, but we definitely lose a fair bit when he's not on the pitch.
If we can get him closer to the box while we're missing Richarlison then that's going to be a big help for us

Completely agree, so much so, when he went off we completely fell apart. Some real bizarre takes floating about.
We are elite at pumping players up and equally elite at smacking them after 1 bad game, when we are still top of the league ffs!!

The midfield is a unit. If you take out one part of it the other parts aren’t going to look good. Kante for example has gone from being the top midfielder in the world to a bit of a headless chicken for Chelsea because the midfield set up is wrong.
Doucoure Allan Gomes works because Allan can sit behind the other two, he doesn’t have to press over long distances so him not having top pace isn’t caught out. Gomes retains the ball well sucking in opposition players to that side of the pitch so he can then release Doucoure or James in space on the far side with a switch of play. Doucoure can play box to box and has options to pass to in motion around him.
As soon as Sigurdsson is added into the mix the whole balance is upset because Sigurdsson wanders off and starts jogging around aimlessly in the number 10 position. Allan then finds himself covering a whole side of the pitch (made even worse by Iwobi doing nothing) and his pressing is stretched over longer distances allowing him to be run past and played around. Doucoure is also less certain what to do as Sigurdsson is now right in front of him where he would be making runs and instead of getting the ball on the move in space like he was before he’s now getting it off the centrebacks with opposition players pressing him.
To sum up Sigurdsson absolutely destroys our midfield because he can’t carry out a role with any discipline. Doucoure and Allan shouldn’t take the blame for his absolute failure as a footballer.

Correct. Gomes clearly holds a very important role in this midfield. One that no one else in our current squad can do better.
The question can be should we replace him with an even better CM, but benching him is counter productive. ESPECIALLY vs pressing teams. You need him or the other 2 midfielders are cooked.

Play him further forward this week to get energy on the counter and an extra body in the box. Every time we attacked last week we had 1 player in the box.
