Seems Im in the minority but I think Doucoure is a really good player in the right set up. He quite often gets asked to do more than one job in covering his other midfielders, the full backs when they bomb forward as well as get forward and defend.
His engine is incredible and he can get all over the pitch, I think in a 3 with a proper holding midfielder and someone who can create something he would flourish. He was our best player for a long spell last season.

The one who hasn't been able to get through a season healthy in 5 years aside from when he went to a league way below his standard?
Anyway some guys get worse as they age but start from such a high point that they aren't suddenly bad. Ronaldo is a good example of that imo. He's still damn good but he's also gone way down from his peak. Just an astronomical peak.
Which, coincidentally is the same amount of passes he's made to a team-mate since he's been an Everton player.

I read that as he's not good enough as a holding midfielder and not good enough to create anything. So we have to play a certain formation to somehow shoe horn in a limited player because he's an athlete?

You need glue players in your team. He was overpriced but he has saved our skin on several occasions with his energy and constant running, both offensively and defensively. The hate for him (not necessarily directing that at you) on here from a small minority is ridiculous. It's not Doucoure's fault he's been asked to do everything, it's the club's fault for failing to add quality players to our midfield for years.
All of this, love the Duke, he’s been awesome for us.

I dont know where the hate thing comes from. He doesnt do everything. Thats an exaggeration. Its almost like saying if he didnt run about so much his technical ability and passing would improve. It wouldnt.
I'd still pick him from what we have available. But thats because the other options are just as bad. Saying he was at times Evertons best midfielder last season isn't any sort of accolade. Our midfield is absymal.
So if we want to say he's at times the best of a worst bunch fine. But lets not make out he's a good player. He's bang average.
