2021/22 Abdoulaye Doucouré

He’s a decent player in the context of our squad but fairly poor in the context of the league. It shouldn’t be that controversial to say these things but it always feels like it is.

He’s not an embarrassment of a footballer who should be in league one but he’s pretty limited and not massively effective on the whole. We’re better with him in the team in the short term, we’d be better without him in the team in the long term.

Pretty much spot on.
His energy in games is important when its there. When its not he's a bit anonymous. Been a few times even this season the weight of his passing has been the difference in the final pass chance gone. Its often things like that can win or lose you games at this level.
Like him. He's been a good signing. But there are a lot of sides in the prem he possibly wouldnt get into.

I said the same when we signed him and got a bit of stick lol
I seen him as a stop gap player, for 2/3yrs and what I mean as a fan base we always want better, well I do. So I always think eventually we will get better than him.

At the time he was what we needed in midfield. A big powerful runner. But he his a very limited footballer. The over hit pass to Richarlison in the villa game was poor and for the rest of the game he was terrible. I always look to the fact here was this 26yr old experienced, aggressive midfielder available for 20mil and no top teams were interested

On his day, he is an excellent player, genuinely excellent, however, like many of our players, he lacks consistency! I like to think with consistent performances, we can get consistent performers and if so, he is one of the first on the team sheet for me.
Over to you Frank

He’s definitely not excellent, well not for me. I’ve seen some excellent midfielders at Everton in over 40yrs and he’s not one of them. I think he just has a good level, and sometimes drops below.
And at 29 I’m not sure he’s improving much.

I know it’s one game, but you watch de Beek he’s streets ahead from a technical point of view. Ok Doucoure can offer things de Beek can’t, and with Lampard wanting to keep possession, you have to wonder about his long term position in the team. Squad player at best moving forward

I think you are highlighting beeks strengths and doucs weakness, though.Give him a abit of freedom to bring the ball forward and to get into the box and and he is our best at doing so. The ten-twenty or so games where he has been very good, if he could always be that player then he is a monster for me. Having said all that, it could just be that I am used to seeing such average MF play over the last few years that Douc is better in my head than he actually is

Im Not trying to slag him and say he’s crap, he’s a good player, but not great. Spent most of his prem
Career in the bottom half. Yes he can run with the ball, but I think his passing is average
Definitely thing it’s the latter for you.

I wasn’t Gana’s biggest fan, but go back 5yrs and he doesn’t get in our midfield, with Gana and Barry.

This is true

Its his role in the team that is important.

Regardless of if he "can't pass" (some people confuse errant passing with not being able to pass, they are not quite the same thing) he is the only properly mobile midfielder we have who can get up and down the pitch. We need that player in the team.

29 and with one year left on his contract. Had three injuries in less than 10 months which included the pre-season period. Must have a similar absence record to Mina, yet there doesn’t seem to be the same clamour to sell him.

Was very important to Ancelottis midfield, our form went off a cliff when he was injured.

We (understandably) tend to under-rate our players - personally think he is top-half premiership player - ahead of Davies, Gomes and Gbamin, Delph for sure.

Difficult to compare him to Gana or Allan who play the game very differently.

Doesn't feel like he has been out quite as long as Mina - but it's a fair comparison.
