It was and made more impressive by the fact that Dyche only had 5 days to work with the team. In that time he brought Doucore in from the cold and recognised his suitability for the role he played.

Yeah I could imagine him playing off a striker sometimes maybe. Maybe Doucoure doing that too, getting in the box to get shots off and not having to do anything he's rubbish at like passing

Yep I agree, don't think he's technically good enough to play any other way than direct. What he does offer though is the legs and determination to both attack and defend in midfield, which we struggled to do both under lampard

Dyche seemed to do this a lot. He had a lot of mobile players, but give them 1.5 roles. Like Doucoure was somewhere between an 8 and a 10 and had to do a bit of both. Gana was a 6 but would step out sometimes. Onana was an 8 but sometimes dropped deeper. Iwobi had to go between being wide midfielders and fullbacks. It just allowed us to swamp West Ham and look like we had extra players.
I dont think Lampard ever really set us up to play that way. It was much more about what we witmh possession. It's definitely not Doucore's game. I think Dyche will let him play to his strengths.
