2024/25 Abdoulaye Doucoure

I’m from Belfast and I can tell you now that Liverpool’s biggest following is by staunch loyalists.

I’ve never understood this apparent ‘Irish’ link they have. It’s a myth. The sole reason my dad and brother started supporting Everton and then got me into it was because they were always the Irish team.

I get that none of this really matters by the way, as it’s football and should be enjoyed by all. But it’s the lies that gets me and we all know their ability to do that.
Probably because it's the exact type of person who claims to have Irish grandparents etc that also claims to have some wafer thin reason for supporting liverpool

We’ll see how we fare without him. I want him out the team as much as everyone else but until someone comes in and shakes their claim as a better option managers will keep going back to him. Other players have to close passing lanes like he does, track back like he does, occupy defenders, and then add better quality whilst on the ball.

Absolutely this.

They had about 6 supporters clubs on the Shankill Road once upon a time in the 70s and 80s.

United and Celtic had supporters club in Nationalist areas; Liverpool were the English team of Unionists/Loyalists.

Doucoure is also a goal threat. We'll miss that.

The shambles of a transfer window means we'll seriously have to think about having Keane subbing Beto in the closing stages of every PL game we have left.

Was superb in the second half, just a shame there is not the composure. We know he can do it as well, it is just not consistent enough.

I thought he played the perfect Cahill role last night, if only for Cahill's finishing though.

I'm not sure about that. He's very much in the Cahill/Fellaini mould (not as good as either but the same principle). I'm not saying I want him to stay in the side or even that Moyes will, but in terms of style I think he fits with what Moyes likes quite well.
He’s not even close to either of them, Cahill wasn’t the best technically,
But better than doucoure and was another level in and around the penalty box. And fellaini was on a different planet

Moyes actually coaches the players so yeah I think somebody else will be able to step in and block off passing lanes.

I mean I literally said he's not as good in my post. You said he's not a Moyes number 10 and i'm saying he very much is. He might want a better version of it, but as a type he's very much what Moyes likes - hence him picking him there in every game since he took over.

You might be right but I don't know. If one of their players did that to us I would give them a load of stick at the time but I wouldn't be 'livid' about it once it had happened. Van Dijk was getting their entire team to come over and celebrate in the corner of the Gwladys after their first goal, he didn't seem to think that was provocative but then totally lost his rag at Doucoure. For me it's just part of the game.
I think there’s a difference between running out of your way to celebrate in front of opposition fans after the final whistle than scoring a goal in an end that’s entirely home fans and celebrating in front of them when that’s the area you are already in. And the ref was straight over to where the Liverpool’s players were when they scored.

Doucs shouldn’t have done it, and got a card for doing so. I enjoyed watching it and appreciate him for it. But as a fan base we shouldn’t pretend we wouldn’t be pi**ed off if someone did that to us.

Broja is predicted to return around late March / early April, so it won`t be Keane going up front in the closing stages of every game we have left.
