2024/25 Abdoulaye Doucoure

Stats about us only winning when he plays are misleading; we rarely win and he’s almost always available, that’s the correlation.

Very limited but occasionally effective.

Entirely possible it’s completely his choice rather than the club being finally ruthless and savvy. Fun to always label players as money grabbing and taking the easy option. Maybe wants use his final contract to start putting new roots down for his newly enlarged family. Maybe he can see, irrespective of wages, he would play less and less here as we strive for better players and higher achievements, as Moyes has very clearly referenced.

Would keep him on the (very) cheap.

But the rumour is that
Had we agreed to same terms we’d also have pay a signing on fee so 6mil wages 3mil fee ???
We apparently bid for Röhl in January if he costs 20mil and wants 50k a week its 6.5 mil next year

Ive no idea on any alternative deal or the economics that could be involved for another player.

Been told he isnt on some of the figures bandied about, its about 85k a week.

If the club has decided to move on we move on, i think we will need deep pockets though, i would have assumed the job of work would have been to keep lads starting and hopefully making them squad players by signing higher quality, thus maximising the budget. Which is why i think we will need deep pockets.

If thats the decision the club has made, we move on as long as there is an alternative plan.

If keep him for another year but not on his current deal. Good move by the club would be a good squd player and play an important part of the team. But just simply not something we should be paying that amount of money should be 50-80 and 80 is still very high. Same with dcl cant be oaying over 100 for both

He is worth keeping on reduced terms.

Whilst he has clear flaws to his game he does have good attributes too and has been a good signing in overall terms.

I wouldn't like to see him starting many games but he can be useful as a squad player and we will need plenty of those too, considering the state of our bench.

We were never going to trigger the option, that would have been ridiculous. Don't think this changes anything at all really, it's all about whether they can come to an agreement that suits both parties - the extension certainly wasn't that.

Curious to think who is making this decision, given the vacuum, with manager, DOF and CEO.
I would imagine Thelwell is continuing to head up footballing matters at the moment, otherwise we'd have just put him on gardening leave or whatever. Likely to be a simple case of asking Moyes whether he's so important to his plans that we need to pay him a massive wage and Moyes saying no I would have thought.
