2024/25 Abdoulaye Doucoure

I would imagine Thelwell is continuing to head up footballing matters at the moment, otherwise we'd have just put him on gardening leave or whatever. Likely to be a simple case of asking Moyes whether he's so important to his plans that we need to pay him a massive wage and Moyes saying no I would have thought.

Dont think its Moyes style to disenfranchise a player like this mid season with games being played mate. Just my take.

Stats about us only winning when he plays are misleading; we rarely win and he’s almost always available, that’s the correlation.

Very limited but occasionally effective.

Entirely possible it’s completely his choice rather than the club being finally ruthless and savvy. Fun to always label players as money grabbing and taking the easy option. Maybe wants use his final contract to start putting new roots down for his newly enlarged family. Maybe he can see, irrespective of wages, he would play less and less here as we strive for better players and higher achievements, as Moyes has very clearly referenced.

Would keep him on the (very) cheap.

We won 2 weeks ago when he didn’t play.

I doubt we have much choice, Doucoure will no doubt have been pushing for an answer (quite rightly) and it may even be stipulated in the contract that we need to inform him of our decision by a certain date in order for him to be able to make plans. I think it's a bit naive to think that players will happily sit there until the end of June with no idea whether they're about to be unemployed or not.

Thats what’s happened, everton’s deadline to extend has passed

Sensible approach. I would only sign Doucs up again on much less wages once we know how our transfer window is panning out.
None of us really know what's coming with our budget, sell to buy for psr that Moyes talked about?, how many players we want?, how many we actually get?, how many of the ones we actually wanted signed up? etc.
Might need to string him along a bit until we know more.

Logical and unsurprising.

I suspect he'll choose to stay and we'll be paying circa £60k a week for the privilege.

Makes sense all round with a big move to Saudi in 2026.
Surprised by the lack of (publicly known) Saudi links in January as well with him only on less than 6 months left. Maybe the club believes they're in a stronger position to negotiate so decides not to take up the option

It makes sense as Alcaraz 'should' be the 10 going forward so Doucoure wont 'expect' to be paid as a high earner.

At the same time he must be settled and will definitely see himself being used by Moyes in many games -- probably suits him age wise to transition to more of a rotation player.

I think he and Gana will both stay for a season.

If he does go then he leaves with my sincere gratitude for obvious reasons. Baffling how he lasted so long here on the terms he’s on. Just like Gareth Farrelly he will always be remembered but both of them were levels below what an EFC midfielder should be

The club are probably looking at giving him 2 year with the same amount of cash he'd get for 1 on his current deal. He's been useful but no way he should be top earner or close to it, at any premier league club.
There is no way at all that Everton FC offers Abdoulaye Doucoure two additional years on his contract, regardless of salary. If he stays, it's one year, on about 40% of his current wage. Hopefully he goes.
