2024/25 Abdoulaye Doucoure

Of all the players to play precisely 158 games for us between the ages of 27 and 32, mostly in midfield, and who've picked up 28 bookings and scored 20 goals, this guy is the absolute worst.
My point is he’s the worst player who we just trot out week after week who never gets better and has no hope of getting better. No player has been consistently poor for this long that I can remember and still gets games week after week. They decided to finally get rid of him and they still shifted someone out of position to accommodate him in the team! On Saturday!

Maybe the best way to put it is we’ve never had such a damaging player. Every week he plays just damages the team’s chances of being even competent and we’ve don’t it consistently for years. No other Everton player has ever done that to my knowledge.

And the idiot still thinks he should be playing box to box. His only slightly useful quality is occasionally he finds himself in position to tap in a rebound and he can’t even get through his head that’s all he’s good for. No Abdoulaye you should not play deeper where technical ability and positional sense matter even more. Once again look at Saturday where we concede because multiple times he fails to stop an attack he’s in position to stop.

Truly truly the most garbage player that we refuse to ever stop playing. I’ve never seen anything like it.

We don't need to move him on, he's out of contract so I don't think he'll be our issue from June onwards.

….i meant it’ll be good if we can move on from him because he’s been such a key member of the team for a long time. He’s dreadful in possession but he’s effective out of it, hopefully we can graduate to the better quality Moyes says we need.

100% we will. There's already been long passages of play when he's not on the field where we look a far better side.

I'd recommend anyone to watch Saturdays game from minutes 20-29 to see how much he hinders us as a team. He actually starts ok with his pressing in the initial early part of the game (but his pressing was no more effective than the pressing Alcaraz was doing from the left) then in this passage of the game he epitomises everything that he is so bad at. A simple through ball that he over hits by 20 yards, a header that he heads about 2 yards into the ground and bounces up into the keeper, a shot he completely gets wrong after a cracking delivery from Jake, a pass he tries to do a 1-2 with Jake that he plays 15 yards too far ahead if him and goes out for a throw in.

Literally, 4 real important passages of play in a short space of time that break down each and every time.

He is pretty useless.

We always have 3 or 4 players who do that, sometimes we get around it by one or two of them having a good game or the others playing really well. That's the life of a mid table (at best) premier league team I suppose.

….yep, doesn’t surprise me but I have a thought that footy is about what you do with the ball and what you do without it.

James Rodriguez is prime example of a player who is wonderful with the ball and poor without it, Doucoure is the other end of the spectrum. As a team, we need to be effective with and without the ball. Saying that, our strategy should be to ensure all of our footballers have a good level of quality in possession.

He's got to be one of our most polarizing players in recent history. Ultimately he will be remembered for his critical goals but for those of us who watched him play game in game out.......

He's always been a very limited footballer, however, up until the past 12 months or so, he was also a superb athlete. Sadly, the sands of time are catching up with him and he is no longer gifted with endless stamina and power. When you add to this the fact that he is so poor on the ball, I really hope we don't agree a new contract with him, just so Moyes can't be tempted to keep picking him. Time to move on.

….he’d be a nuisance to play against with his powers of recovery, his size and power along with those big long gangly legs but you wouldn’t be overly worried when he’s in possession of the football.

Well I think the final decision on whether to offer Doucoure a new contract or not is down to the manager and if he doesn’t know if he’s worth signing or not will tell most of us a lot about the manager.!

That was the case, but, I don't feel we get even that much benefit from playing him now, he's blowing out of his arse after half an hour these days.

But what’s your point here mate; are you suggesting a player on £120,000 a week should be able do all of those things? You have very high standards. He is really good at running around for most of the match.
