2024/25 Abdoulaye Doucoure

I expect his contract to be extended by a further year in the summer. This isn’t me saying I’m in love with him, it’s just what I expect to happen, and given the state of our squad, I can understand the reasoning.

Dyche will push for it no doubt and for
Keano,
But thankfully he won’t be here and get say.
Forget all this we do better with him in the team, he’s a terrible footballer and shouldn’t be anywhere near the team.
Gana yes id give him a new deal

And what’s this state of the squad nonsense, we have a better squad than last season and got 48 points. We have a better squad than 6/7 prem teams imo
We are going to be down on a lot of players come the summer but I still would be surprised if Doucoure gets an extension. It will depend on a new manager, even an individual who wants to use the midfield 30% more than Dyche does, they are not going to want someone like Doucoure in the team imo which then means he becomes a very expensive bench option.

I get all the we’re loosing a lot of
Players and apparently we will be down to 12 players, probably not counting youngsters, so need 11 which again according to some people it will be impossible you can’t sign 11 players in one summer, well we brought in 9 this summer robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Of all the players who're out of contract in the summer the only ones I wouldn't give new contracts/re-sign are Coleman and Harrison. But saying that, it'll be interesting to see how the likes of Young, Doucoure, Keane and Gueye will fair if Dyche - which I don't suspect he will be - isn't in charge come next summer. My preferred choice is Thomas Frank, I'd love us to get him, but I can't see Doucoure starting or featuring much in his side. Be great if Saudi came in for him in January 🙏

I also hope that we upgrade in CM, but I'd like it to be an additional upgrade, as opposed to a replacement that sees us deprive ourselves of a decent squad player in Doucoure.

Upgrading on Doucoure so that he starts most games on the bench makes much more sense that binning off Doucoure altogether imo. The upgrade should effectively be a Mangala replacement.

But why have him on the bench earning a fortune, what does he offer off the bench the last 20 minutes? He’s not going to play as a centre mid or a winger,
So bring him on to play behind the striker or play him as an auxiliary striker. Doesn’t make sense , surely we will have better options next season

Say we sign his replacement, and the replacement ends up like Gbamin. It doesn't even need to be as extreme as Gbamin; it could just be a one-off hamstring that keeps him out for 10 weeks or whatever.

I don't see him as a super sub, but I think he'd be a worthwhile backup. Our squad is not strong enough to be letting Doucoure walk away imo.

We can't do that as he's the club highest earner currently and any new contract will still keep him at insane (for what he is) money.

I agree that his wages are obscene, and my understanding is that we have an option to extend his contract until 2026, which would make reducing his wages difficult or impossible, so keeping him on would likely involve a continuation of his obscene wages, which ain't great, I agree.

I just think that the state of our bench is even more obscene that Doucoure's wages.

Well it should be next season, if it’s not then it will be another horrendous summer window, if you get injuries you get injuries it’s part and parcel of the game, what if we dont get injuries and we’ve paid doucoure 5mil to sit on the bench, that can be used as a down Payment to sign a 15/20mil youngster.
