Aces cracked.

Sounds exactly the kind of way you want a hand to go when you've got aces. Getting someone all in is what you've got to aim for. It's horrible getting a bad beat live like. So much easier when it happens on-line.

Spot on.

I understand top pair doesn't always win but it wins a lot. And seeing what these guys had been turning up as winning hands just made me think that if I can get someone all in, my odds would be good.

Haven't a clue what you're on about mate. I really wish I could understand but I can't.......I'm assuming you lost money.......

What does this actually mean.......

Someone limps into the flop real slowly, 2 clubs, 8 spades, King hearts. I have Ace Ace. He puts a pity bet in pretending to trap to make it look like hes on the trap to then have me thinking hes trying to make the cowboys. I see his pity bet to shut him up or provoke him. Queen diamonds on the turn, he pity raises again, so i raise and he re raises. Its texas hold em so one of us is bust out at this hand as we're 'all in', cards on their backs - I show the aces, he flips Queen spades and 5 hearts.
Queen on the river, so he makes trips which beats my Aces.
52 cards in the deck, he was fishing for Queens or 5's. I could have picked up one of the two remaining aces (but I was already winning) and he was dead on his feet trying to find the queens or 5's left in the deck (3 of each left).

Thanks but my heads hurting now...........

Absolutely. I've had my share of bad beats (where I was massively behind after the flop only to run them down) where I've won, but based on my play (tight, conservative) I tend to run into bad beats more than your average player just due to my starting hand requirements and position.

I knew I was ahead after he went all in but when he hit his 10, I just felt sick.

Both. The pros will tell you it's more skill than luck but you need a lot of luck to help you too. If you've played your hand properly, your opponent can still "suck out" on you in the end. All the skill in the world can't help you swerve that.

Well said Evil. The fish..."where do they keep coming from?" Yet they're at tables all over the land, still playing "improperly" but you're spot on that they'll occasionally hit a big hand against you. Just seems to happen quite a bit these days.

You're right.

I made this particular play due to the play at the table. Had I been in middle position or later, I probably would have raised out of the gate. But a guy two positions to my left and the big blind had been raising/re-raising since I had sat down so I was hoping just to scoop the blinds plus any raises or at worst, have heads up action, which I got.

It all worked out just right...

...except the flop and turn of course......
