So the Under 20 world cup equates to being a successful premier league striker
Give your head a shake

I meant the Giroud example more but both examples work I suppose.

Assuming an attacker is just there to score goals is a bit narrow minded (for want of a better term, I don't mean it as an insult). Effective strikers come in all different forms. Some are pure goalscorers, some hold up the ball well and bring others into play, some are a pain to play against etc.

Calvert Lewin is nowhere near the finished article, I think that's fair to say, but he does have his uses as well. I would be more concerned if he was missing chances all the time but he isn't really, he isn't getting chances to convert, that will be a combination of youth and the fact that he has been asked to play pretty much all over the final third and not just centrally.

Besides we had one of the best goalscorers around and we came mid table with him for three seasons. Its not the be all and end all.

Imagine someone walking in here and doing that. Did their fans protest?

The fans of other clubs in the city seemed to protest more from what I can remember at the time, probably because a big club in the city had potential and it would effect them. The team they took over were a 5th level team, I suppose it would be quite like Salford City currently only without the name change. The club was in financial trouble anyway. (SSV Markenstadt?, one of our German posters may correct me on that...)

They did try it with bigger clubs, I think they approached St Pauli (which is amusing really as they are the complete opposite of what they were looking for) and I think Fortuna Dusseldorf which would be somewhat similar to us being taken over (big club, fallen on hard times, though we are not quite as bad as them).

Realistically its not different from what a Manchester City or Chelsea has done. Plowed loads of cash in but those clubs were bigger names that they couldn't really get away with changing the name. Manchester City are basically Etihad FC in all but name.

I get the Giroud example
But he has an ability to score goals in the EPL which is exactly my point ... just because he didnt do it in the WC is irrelevant to his PROVEN EPL STRIKER ability
I repeat DCL works hard but until he shows otherwise he is NOT a striker

Red Bull bought SSV Makrenstradt outright, they dissolved the former club, wiped every single thing to do with them from their history and started again. RB Leipzig is a new club, formed officially in 2009.

Just stop, Zat. We’d not have a single natural 10. Siggy is goin to play, so sit back and enjoy the show.

Option A
Walcott -- Bernard -- Richarlison
Tosun

Option B
Bernard -- Lookman -- Richarlison
Tosun
Option C
Walcott -- Bernard -- Lookman
Richarlison
Option D
Bernard -- Lookman -- Walcott
Richarlison
Option E
Bernard -- Lookman -- Richarlison
Walcott
etc etc
Personally, I would like to see all 3 or 4 attacking midfielders interchanging positions at high speed on the counter...

Teams hate it when there are rapid counter attacks and for that reason I would also be seeking to sign Lozano (or similar) to cover for injuries/suspensions.

I cant see Sigurdsson competing with Lookman/ Richarlison/Bernard on the left side (which last season a lot of people were saying was his best position).

I also cant see Sigurdsson competing with Lookman/ Bernard for the central position if we play Tosun up front as that would slow our attack down

To be honest, I cant see how Sigurdsson fits into any of the attacking, rapid counter attacking midfields we could put out.

This is the Lookman thread and I believe Lookman is better suited to a side wanting to play with a quick counter than Sigurdsson -- in an advanced position

Yes and no. They took over a club and rebranded it.Its not like they moved them 100 miles away. They are more like what the owners of Cardiff or Hull wanted to do.
That's not quite right. Red Bull has bought the license for the 5th league from a small club, SSV Markranstädt, just outside Leipzig. RB Leipzig is a start-up. SSV Markranstädt still exists today.

By the way, most fans of RB Leipzig drink beer, not Red Bull.

Only a smaller Leipzig club should be taken over, but their fans did not want that. Also in Dusseldorf and St. Pauli was requested, that's true.
Finally, SSV Markranstädt was ready to sell his license for the 5th League. The idea of Red Bull to found a football club in Leipzig was pretty clever. Leipzig is a football-loving city. For the 2006 World Cup, a stadium was built here, which was unused after the World Cup.
The two larger Leipzig clubs, called Lok Leipzig and Chemie Leipzig, play only in lower leagues without a chance on the athletic rise. In addition, many fans, especially from Lok Leipzig, are Rightists and there was a lot of violence within the fan scene. For a lot of normal people it was a daunting thing and hardly anyone went to the games. With the founding of RB Leipzig many Leipzig football fans once again had the opportunity to see good football in the stadium and not have any fear of getting a few in the face.

Aye the club was pretty much screwed anyway. Its not that uncommon in Germany for lower level clubs to dissolve.

Olivier Giroud isn't 21 years old though.

You think running around and being energetic but not scoring many goals is good for a striker ?

I think being pacey, decent in the air and on the ground are good attributes for a striker. I also think getting some goals and assists in a very poor team when only young and developing is promising.
