That's not quite right. Red Bull has bought the license for the 5th league from a small club, SSV Markranstädt, just outside Leipzig. RB Leipzig is a start-up. SSV Markranstädt still exists today.

By the way, most fans of RB Leipzig drink beer, not Red Bull.

Only a smaller Leipzig club should be taken over, but their fans did not want that. Also in Dusseldorf and St. Pauli was requested, that's true.
Finally, SSV Markranstädt was ready to sell his license for the 5th League. The idea of Red Bull to found a football club in Leipzig was pretty clever. Leipzig is a football-loving city. For the 2006 World Cup, a stadium was built here, which was unused after the World Cup.
The two larger Leipzig clubs, called Lok Leipzig and Chemie Leipzig, play only in lower leagues without a chance on the athletic rise. In addition, many fans, especially from Lok Leipzig, are Rightists and there was a lot of violence within the fan scene. For a lot of normal people it was a daunting thing and hardly anyone went to the games. With the founding of RB Leipzig many Leipzig football fans once again had the opportunity to see good football in the stadium and not have any fear of getting a few in the face.

I have it on good authority that the only drink you can buy in the ground and local pubs is red bull on draught.

Please confirm.

Funny. Then the pubs would be pretty empty, if only there were Red Bull.
The fans in the stadium were protested because there was only nonalcoholic beer in the Euro League and Champions League games.

Age is not the metric here
THe metrics for strikers revolve around goalscoring
I believe he has the ability
He needs to drop a league for a while to develop it

Of course its a factor. You said Giroud is a proven premier league goalscorer, and he is, but he has plated the bulk of his career now, something that DCL has not done yet.

I don't totally agree that the metrics around strikers revolve around goal scoring, it depends on the type of player and the set up of the team. A target man who's role is to hold up the ball and bring others into play is not judged purely on his goalscoring for example.

I see a lot of this dropping a league thing and it doesn't make sense to me. DCL, Davies etc have played a decent amount of games in a mid table top flight side so that is pretty much their level right now. If they are not going to get game time then fair enough, send them down a league for a bit but if they are in and about the squad then they will learn more on the job.

Proven by Giroud himself in the world cup. Started pretty much every game and didn't score a goal but offered other things to get the best out of the players surrounding him.

This is a great discussion and thank you for keeping it real..... some revert to dumbass comments pretty soon.
I think our fundamental difference of opinion is my belief that a striker (striker ... not winger ... not wingback .... not attacking mid .... but a pure striker.) we needed a strikers goals when lukaku left ... the hue and cry for not replacing him led us to this moment. DCL was our only striker ... he didnt get the goals ... getting the goals was his job

Mirror say we've softened our stance but won't let Lookman leave for less than £30m

Still don't want him to leave, but I'd probably be ok with it at that price considering he's probably going to be 4th choice wide player

He wants game time. He's a young lad, who has a lot of raw talent. He could be a superstar, he could be Bolasie II, but behind Bernard, Richarlison, Walcott.... will he get lots of time? Sigurdsson can always drop in there too if needed. Would be sad to lose him but £30m, would be a good return.

Any dumbass comments from me are always unintentional!

Got to remember that DCL has not really played much as a pure striker though so it's hard to judge him on that. I don't think he will ever be a 20-30 goal a season striker anyway, and depending on how we set up he may not have to be.

We had Niasse for goals but you know..Koeman.

That's the case for any staidum in any European game. UEFA rules

He will once again struggle to get game time next season. He will be in competition with Richarlison, Bernard and Sigurdsson, and may well find himself spending the season on the bench.
