Thank you for your less patronising response than Andy's mate, I have not read his book but I don't need to have done to realise Andy is talking nonsense again.
Wasn't patronising in suggesting you read the book... and if/when you do, you'll read it wasn't nonsense.

It was nonsense Andy and if I could put a moderator on ignore that's where you'd be heading right now.

Anyhow, this is about Lookman, I hope he improves his attitude but if he gets his move to Leipzig I look forward to seeing him turn out for Liverpool in 12 months :coffee:

Don’t know if this has been discussed elsewhere but heard a rumour that Liverpool are pulling the strings in the background. They are using Leipzig to get Lookman out of Everton. Close links between Liverpool and Leipzig with the German connection and sale of Keita. It does seem nonsense to think that Lookman would be seeking a move to Germany full-time. More likely that somebody has got to him and his agent and they are manipulating things to get the move they want. If it was anyone else in the league who wanted him they would just make an offer to us but Liverpool know we wouldn’t sell directly to them. So when he goes to Leipzig put your money on him turning up at Liverpool in 12 months – nice £5 m-£10 m profit for Leipzig so they’re happy and Liverpool get the player they want relatively cheaply.

The only bit of that that makes sense to me is that Liverpool could likely by him for more cheaply from Leipzig than Everton mate. We'd probably not sell to them, or certainly not without a sizeable "tax" put on it. However if we have a look at the rest it doesn't really stack up to whats actually happened

Firstly the Keita/Leipzig negotiations were at various points quite frayed. Liverpool wanted to pay around 30 million for him and had to pay close to double and could only get him a year late. Rangnick in particular frustrated them and made a number of silly comments. It seems unlikely the relationship between the 2 is that strong. If Liverpool wanted a similar relationship/operation it would be far more sensible for them to use Dortmund, who Klopp continues to have a good relationship with?

The reality is that Leipzig and Liverpool are independent businesses with quite different models. Leipzig are about maximising revenue. I think it's in no small part what they saw in Lookman. Talented player. Young wants away. Club didn't want him. Can pick him up cheaply, get him scoring and sell him of for double to treble the value. It's clear they wanted him around the £12-£15m price point and would look to sell him around £40-£50m. Had Allardyce still been here, given his short termism it would have been done. If they have to pay £28m for him and then sell him on to Liverpool, whats in it for them to let him go next year for £40 million? Why wouldn't they sell to the highest bidder?

Also what guarantee do they have Liverpool come in for him? If Liverpool were willing to pay say £45 million next summer, why didn't they just offer Everton £35million this summer and save themselves the £10 million fee? If needs be buy him and loan him to Leipzig (or Dortmund?). It seems a very complicated and devilish way to do something for little benefit for either side, when there are much easier ways of coordinating things if they wanted too.

Finally I really don't think we matter very much to the Liverpool Football club Heirarchy. Their fanbase have this bizarre obsession with us, but American owners who are aiming to make the best team in the league would not waste their time trying to destabilise a team in 8th by unsettling a lad who didn't make their 2nd 11 last night. I'd criticise them for lots of things, but they've got no interest in that. It's a waste of time.

The likely situation is, Lookman enjoyed his loan spell, has been too pigheaded to recognise the change that has come at Everton and is in limbo. If he goes to Leipzig I expect to see him back in England within 2 years and I think Leipzig will probably turn a healthy profit on him, as we will have done to date. Maybe Liverpool buy him. If we get £25/£30 million now plus 10-20% of any future fee we will be well reimbursed.

This is more far-fetched than some of my transfer wind ups, well done.

I don't know anything about difficult negotiations between Leipzig and Liverpool. But Liverpool are thinking two steps ahead all the time at the moment. Look at the Keita deal. I think it's unlikely that a young player like Lookman is going to acting up of his own accord. Seems a very quiet young man to me, certainly doesn't appear 'big' or even 'pig' headed. Therefore it's likely that he would be very heavily influenced by his agent. Agents are looking for the next move for their player all the time so that they can have another payday as soon as possible – just look at the agents fees that are paid when new players are signed. If it is the agent influencing him then highly likely agent is speaking to other clubs already, particularly clubs in England. I can't imagine why a player like Lookman would want to play in Germany – he is regarded as one of the best young England talents and it's less likely he will get England recognition if he is in Germany. It doesn't make sense for him to go there. If he wants to prove himself, why not just stay in the premiership and show how good you are. Therefore any move to Germany must be short-term. If this move to Leipzig is a stepping stone on a move somewhere else then who is it that Lookman is hoping to play for?

I love a good conspiracy theory, but this strikes me as total conjecture.

That said, I wouldn't put anything past 'them' as they've got form for it... instrumental in Howard Kendall leaving for Spain back in the day.

Can you explain Kendall please? Never heard anything of it as I was about 6 at the time

totally agree and probably so has the last 3 Everton managers

The last three managers wernt really on a position to play him tho I don’t think. Koeman has just signed siggy for the left and was losing games , unsworth had limited time and wanted results to get the job permanently and again was losin games and sam? Well he’s sam and lookman probably isn’t good at defending free kicks and corners so he wasn’t going to get much game time. Ironically Silva rates him but it seems lookman isn’t interested in playing for us

How is the Keita deal thinking two steps ahead? They just signed him and left him there for another season to develop.

Furthermore playing in Germany or England doesn’t make a difference to playing for the national team. Sancho chose Germany and he’s miles better than Lookman.
