Ademola Lookman

Time to give him a start imo

..you made a great point on the other thread about ‘players who are not afraid of the ball’. I’m convinced this is why Lookman doesn’t start at this point in time. Against Chelsea, Sigurdsson, Gomes and Bernard in particular were happy receiving and keeping the football.

Lookman can make things happen but he is also liable to give the ball away. In games against the top teams, possession is vital because it relieves pressure. It’s a part of Lookmans game i’m sure they are working with him on and it might be why Silva doesn’t quite trust him to start.

We scored from Theo's run today.

We are on a very good run of form, playing a pretty much settled team where the likes of Lookman still get a decent amount of playing time, we are coming up against our despised rivals and actually look like we may be able to give them a game for once...

So....why are people so hell bent on changing things? What we are doing works!

In a few games, our subs - Lookman included - have changed the result and/or the performance for the better. I see your point, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to wonder what might happen if we make those changes pre-emptively.

Also, Lookman for Walcott may have the welcome side effect of lighting a fire under Theo, and maybe he becomes the impact sub for that game.

But it could also go wrong and we get battered. Our plan B is then out the window.

The subs didn't really change the game today and yet we still want change. I don't get it to be honest. I can get it more any other week but not before a derby.

I don’t disagree at all, I was just stating why I don’t think it’s that shocking to hear the calls for change.

Also, I think we’ve gone so long without a win there that people start to fear the “what if” factor of a loss that’s perceived to be because we didn’t make changes. Ultimately it’s a no-win argument!

We’ve just got to hope that Marco manages the next game as well as he has done for the last few; that lot don’t look quite as rampant in attack as last year so even if we do start slow we’re at least in with a shout of keeping it tight until changes are made.

Would you say the same if Theo misses loads of chances, makes bad decisions against RS and we end up losing? It is never guaranteed to continue like that. Yes it so far works and overall we should build on this but Ademola performs better than Theo and will cause way more trouble for Reds IMO. It is a vital game and we should go for ''the most dangerous man possible'' in all positions

With all flair players he will try things that don't always come off and very liable to give the ball away. You could be onto something though eggs, it could be. Apart of his game Silva and the staff are working on, also keeping shape when he hasn't got the ball.

Next week could be ideal for him though, I think their full backs are a lot happier going forward than they are defending.

Thought he looked very dangerous when he came on. Excellent dribbling and was getting on the ball and driving forwards which created space for others.

Gave the ball away sloppily a couple of times but that’s because he was trying too hard to impress.

He's definitely better coming on with fresh legs against tired ones. Impact sub for now. Definitely shouldn't be starting the derby, for me. If he has to, it should be on the left, not the right.

Did well today when he came on. He's very tidy on the ball and a foul magnet. Great for defending leads.

Impossible to quantify his impact as being better as a substitute as he's not started a league game this season. There's only 1 way to find out, give the lad a run out.
