He looked good in Germany, but the German league looks to be not very good these days it seems, so he will do
What’s archaic about working hard for your rewards? It’s the same principle in every day life.
It's archaic to think that "training well" means you run yourself into the ground every day. Maybe Lookman is such a good athlete that he finds the training easier than most, which Silva is misinterpreting as him not trying as hard?
Maybe Koeman and Large Samuel did the same? Maybe the Leipzig coach understood it better, which is why he was happier to give him minutes and Lookman was happier at that club?
Basically, we only have what Silva said to go off, and it doesn't mean that he's right either. For all we know Lookman is giving a sensible effort in training and doing what needs to be done, but because he isn't crawling off the training pitch in tears every day Silva has got it into his head that he isn't trying hard enough, which would be a stupid way to think. Everyone is different and good man management is about recognising that and adjusting accordingly

Why are you assuming Silva is hinting only that he’s not putting the effort in? Maybe in training his shooting has been really poor? His tactical decisions have been off? His defensive contribution is under par?
I think it’s archaic to assume doing well in training translates to “runs the most”.
I mean, if you actually read what he says it’s pretty clear that he’s not talking about running through sand dunes. He makes it pretty obvious he means that he’s not following instructions and taking on board what’s being asked of him. It's archaic to think that "training well" means you run yourself into the ground every day. Training is the platform to put tactics and planning for the next match into practise. If Lookman isn't following instruction or finds it too difficult to do what is asked of him then he has no part in the team. Training is not all about running yourself into the ground but showing willing and following the game plan. If Lookman is failing at these than no place for him in the team.

You can see when you watch him that he’s a street footballer, wanting to play the game his own way, but that’s not really how top level football works.
I’m not sure he’s that good. But hard to tell with the limited time we actually get to see him.
I just don’t think he wants to be here. His time in Germany showed him something he liked and he wants more of it.
Which is fair enough I think.
Of course it is, but that doesn't mean that it isn't what Silva thinks
If it was the other things you mentioned, I don't think Silva should have addressed it the way he has, nor would he to be honest. Issues like that are an arm around the shoulder situation, not a slam a player in the press situation, that's reserved for when a player isn't "working" hard enough (I.e running)
I don't think it's necessarily a bad attitude in general, but as I said, I think it's clear from watching him that he doesn't really do what we're asking our wide players to do. People question why Walcott gets picked ahead of him but I've always thought it was blatantly obvious, it's because Walcott plays the role the way the manager wants him to. When you get to 21, and numerous managers haven't fully trusted you to perform your role properly (and let's not forget he had a period out of the team in Leipzig too) it does start to suggest that you may have a problem. Whether that's a deliberate disregard for instruction or just an inability to learn and implement plans I don't know, but it's concerning.People in here seem to have made up their minds that his attitude is the problem
Maybe he's just an unorthodox player and a different approach is needed to get the best out of him?
