It's what we always do when a player leaves to be honest

All of a sudden they were never really that good

Barkley, Stones, Lukaku, Fellaini etc

Once they left they were suddenly crap

It's definitely a coping mechanism IMO
Doesn't feel like he ever really joined to be honest. I can only remember about 2 games in 2 years.

Or maybe some fans are looking at a player who has shown on very limited occasions flashes of ability and thinking that he is going to be a top player and see one thing.
But the people who work with him every day think different.
Silva could have been personally training since the day he was born until he plays actual games we won't actually know if he's good enough or not. My assertion with Lookman has always been that it's mad that we've only given him 15 starts in 2 seasons when our attack is below average and he's clearly talented. And it looks more and more like we will sell him and possibly Onyekuru as well without ever seeing if they could do it.

Look at the players you mentioned, how many of those have gone on to have the careers that was expected when they left Everton or have justified the fee paid for them ?

Well Stones has had injury issues but he's looked good at City on the whole and Ross has worked his way into the Chelsea squad this season and could end up winning the Europa League, so I'd say things are going well for both of them

If a player does not perform in training then he does not deserve a run of games.
I'd sell him and take a chance on some other young player anyway.
There is a reason Silva does not play him. And that unlikely to change.

I just don't buy the prove it in training bit. Managers just refuse to trust youngsters. At a minimum Lookman should have been starting at times last season when we had no attack. I'd argue Bernard wasn't good enough to keep him out of the team this year too but I'm not going there again.

Look at Hudson-Odoi at Chelsea. Bayern want him but Chelsea consistently play Pedro instead. Is it because he has a bad attitude too? Is he terrible in training too? Nah managers just bottle it with young players in this league.

Do you watch them training every day. If not you dont know. The manager does .
The manager spent close to 50 million on a 21 year who he had worked with previously so he knew he had the right attitude.
He starts Dcl so again he trusts a young player. So not sure your arguement holds much water

It took DCL half the season to get in the team despite Cenk being woeful and Rciharlison being played out of position up top too. It was forced on him. Richarlison was given a chance that Lookman has never had which is kind of my whole point since Richarlison had that goal drought at Watford and was allowed to fight through it. Lookman has one meh performance and doesn't start for 5 months.

Maybe I'll be wrong here in the long run but I think whether here or somewhere else Lookman is going to take his chance when it finally comes. But never getting it because he hasn't proved it in training? When we are averaging 50 goals a season since he got here? That's horse manure.

Or maybe he is not as good as you think either .
But if a player does not perform in training then leave him on the bench or in the stand. Everything is monitored so they can tell exactly who is putting it in and who is not.
If he is success in the future more luck to him . But it's not going to be here.

I just have a different philosophy on the importance of training. To me if they're in the squad then they should be available for use regardless of how good they do in training. Oumar got banished because he was poor in training and saved Koemans job for a brief time. It's a different environment and not a 100% indicator of someone's ability in a real match. So for a manager to see a problem scoring goals like we have had at times in the last two years and rule out a player because they don't train well is madness to me. When it's a young player it's even dumber.

Differing opinions.
But there is a saying fail to prepare prepare to fail .
The manager wants the team to do well and win. And he did not see lookman helping him to do that. Either did 2 other managers . Now maybe all 3 are wrong and you are right. But I'd be doubtful .

Couldn’t agree more with every word.. being saying all season he has done absolutely nothing to all of a sudden to be dropped just as we were playing our worst football. I feel he has shown a lot of growth coming back from Germany. Some managers don’t know how to handle these millennials who feel they should be played..

He clearly is gifted and only game time can work out those traits that some don’t like.. personally I saw nothing I didn’t like. His possession was one of the best of any of our players and he made more good choices than bad ones... if I were him I would want to bolt too. Poorly treated in my opinion!

Preparation isn't meaningless but making it happen when you're messing around with your mates and when you're in front of 50,000 people are different things. There is only one way to find out who can handle the spotlight...

Training is not messing about with your mates. It's what he is paid to do and do well .
Do you think the likes of messi and Ronaldo just turn up to training all their careers do a few flicks and coast. most of The best players train harder then the rest.
Goes for any sport.
