I've really wanted to like him and for him to succeed with us.
I've trusted others views on his potential as opposed to what I've seen with my own eyes.

I'm totally not arsed about him. Same as Vlasic.

Reason Bernard is being brought into the conversation is cos he was in direct competition to Lookman and kept him out the side. No other reason. So the obvious debate is whether he deserved to. No need to get your yourself all wound up. No one has actually said Bernie is rubbish .. far from it. But for some reason arguments are always taken to the edges and assumed to be all or nothing. It’s not the case.

I have Bernard down as not good enough to push us into the top 4. If you interpret that as rubbish so be it.

Lookman today is also not going to push us into the top 4. But that could change in 2 or 3 years and I don't think it will with Bernard. So I was a bit upset to see Bernard preferred to Lookman 90% of the time on account of that. If that means my view has no value that's fine.

Surely top 4 isn’t a realistic ambition in any case, in which case he doesn’t need to be. If this squad gets us into Europe we can look to attract players to take us to the next level.

While I agree next year top 4 isnt really in play, I think a 3 year plan with the end goal being competing for top 4 is realistic. But that kind of thinking needs to be held through the whole club and it felt to me like Silva was playing too much for right now and not enough for building the team down the line.

So a nice £10m to £15m profit on a player not signed by our current DOF, for a player that has contributed hardly anything to the current team, could be used on player that actually will then? Sounds a plan.

It isn't just Lookman though. We should have been testing Mina and Keane last year. If we told Gueye he could go in the summer than different set ups in midfield should have been tried. We didn't take proper advantage of having 5 competitive games at the end that meant very little.

I assume they’ve never watched a game of football and only look at goals/assists and the highlights real.

Thats kinda what you do mate. You dont change a winning team. If your man had done something earlier in the season, he might have been part of it. He wasnt.

But we were inevitably going to have to shift a winning team with Zouma and Gueye both possibly out so using the end of the season that we already haven't made CL is probably a better time than the start of one where we still have a chance right? Yeah I think Lookman should have been given a run at that point too but in general we thought too short.
