Ademola Lookman

I said ...perhaps Sancho. Why? Dropped for league match against Borussia Monchengladbach for returning late, put on the bench by Zorc against Barcelona for another internal issue, put in the reserves the previous year. Forgot his passport for travel to Spurs game....all minor misdemeanours away from the pitch and probably all part of the maturity process in becoming a professional footballer when you are a teenage millionaire and international footballer. That’s why I said perhaps, because he is incredibly talented and may well be sold for over £100m.

But back to Lookman. I agree at his best, he can make a difference but the reality was his head and heart wasn’t in doing that for Everton on a consistent basis and his performances on the pitch often reflected that. I never doubted his ability, just his desire. I’m not even sure if he is a regular in Leipzig’s current match day squad, never mind playing. No issue if we disagree on Lookman but I thought it was the right decision to sell a player at a profit who didn’t want to be here and had delivered performances below the level we knew he was capable of. Where I do agree with you is that our current midfield is devoid of any creativity.....and desire. Not convinced Lookman would be the one to fix it.
Sancho is 19 and has 9 goals and 9 assists in the Bundesliga so far this season. The best league output of everyone else on the list is Barkley having 6 goals and 8 assists while he was still here. Sancho is a different level of player. Is he maybe a bit immature? Yeah it seems like it but I also have to admit that I would not be able to handle anything like the pressure that a player like he is under at 19 years old. So I don't get on players for that kind of stuff when they clearly aren't throwing away their talent when they are playing.

Lookman is not playing for RBL but that's honestly not to big a deal on the surface when he's playing for a team that is probably a top 10 club side in the entire world right now. What is a big deal about that is that from age 20-23 he's played very limited minutes at a time in his career when he really needed to be on the field for whatever team would do it. His career is probably ruined because of these few years and that's a shame for a player with his raw talent.

I think you have to ask why he was so fed up with playing for Everton. My feeling is that any player of his ability would be a bit pissed to watch Bernard and Walcott play weekly and not produce anything. If Lookman had no history with us and had just joined after his loan spell at RBL we all would have been up in arms at his lack of playing time just like we currently are with Kean. Instead we were okay with Silva benching him, believed him when he said his attitude wasn't up to snuff and didn't care when he was sold because originally he was a bit inconsistent as a 19 year old stepping up two divisions.

I questioned it all at the time and Silva's downfall makes it look even more worthwhile to question his decisions now. Point here being we totally screwed up our handling of him so we could play a 30 year old who everyone knows isn't good enough, a 27 year old who had 1 league assist in an entire calendar year and at times Gylfi Sigurdsson on the wing. Now we are left with no competent creative players and we have no idea whether Lookman (and Vlasic too really) were good enough to fill that void because we never gave them a proper chance and didn't care enough to think long term. It was managerial negligence.

There is a whole generation of togger players who are athletic and quick but lack true mastery of the ball Walcott and Sterling being prime examples. It's why there are no heirs apparent to Ronaldo and Messi, Lookman is very much of that ilk.
His Charlton you-tube show-reel shows him cutting through cack defences but without total control of the ball better defenders would stop him in his tracks. He couldn't adapt which is why he is well on the way to being a journeyman minge.

Sterling can't play?

And Mbappe is the heir.

If he ends up playing for Newcastle and we still have Walcott in our squad, I will be asking myself how the hell this happened? Maybe he isn’t as good as I thought he could be. I don’t ever remember seeing him make several consecutive starts though, maybe he will for Newcastle and we will be vindicated fully, or shown to have missed out big time.
