We're in the process of migrating to a new ad partner.

Please bear with, it'll take me a little while to fine tune placements/user permissions to get the ads as you expect/become used to.

[Update] After a 2 week trial, we binned the new ad partner and went back to the one we've used for 6 years. There has been no changes.

Just purchased a pair of new glasses off - Glasses Direct - is it a coincidence that nothing but their adverts have since appeared?

Dealt with them before good frames etc, but renewed my prescription & ordered - bombarded with adverts of them on the GOT ? While online on the GOT ?

Makes no sense as I have used them & will use them again in 2 years time god willing ......

Its because of an algorithm that decides to ask you if you want MORE of something you just bought. I had one for a chest freezer, for about 6 weeks I was getting ads for chest freezers. Like....I don't need 13 chest freezers ffs, I just needed one!

Nothing has changed Chris, every now and again an overzealous/rogue ad will creep in but we soon bin them.

Not changed anything - I get ads too.

Guests (not logged in) get the most ads, normal registered/logged in get less ads, forum supporters get less ads again.

A few months back we introduced a £10 a month on request, that allows the option of a style with no ads.

Some ads are served depending on browsing behaviour - so if you look at holidays, you'll see some holiday ads.
Other ads are served based on advertising targetting like keywords/website category - which is why we'll see things like Arsenal advertising their new kit on here. They've pickedup words like "arsenal" on here or "football fan audience" and place their ads accordingly - if they was good, they'd be better at excluding audiences.

Absolutely nothing has changed.

If it's unusable now, then it's been that way for years? (This thread was created in Feb, but we later reverted back to the old setup).

This is how the site is on mobile for forum subscribers;



That's on an old Samsung too.

Hey Danny mostly don't mind ads but are getting unskippable Matthew McConaughey video AI ads on every page twice a page with audio that autoplay.

Some of these ad issues have gone ridiculous as of late; mainly the intrusive issue that @chrismpw mentioned. I'd be happy to pay subs for an ad free experience, but just reading back through this thread doesn't look like it's guaranteed. I've added GOT to javascript exceptions on Chrome for now, hopefully that helps.

As I said to Chris mate, nothing has changed.

Every now and again an overzealous/rogue ad will creep in but we soon bin them.

This is how the forum looks to forum subscribers;



^ Less ads and no stuck footer ad.

We can't run without ads, and I've yet to find a forum of similar size to ours (football/which has peak/rush traffic) that has any less ads than we do.
