BBC News - Togo footballers shot in ambush

Gunmen have opened fire with machine guns on a bus carrying Togo's football team to the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola, wounding several players.

Officials say it occurred in the Angolan territory of Cabinda after the bus crossed from the Republic of Congo. There are reports of serious injuries.

The Africa Cup of Nations is due to start on Sunday.

Togo's first game is to be played on Monday in oil-rich Cabinda where rebels have been fighting for independence.

The Togolese team includes Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor, who is not among those wounded, Manchester City says.

Those injured also include team doctors. The identities of the injured are not known.

I hope they're ok, but how can they gurantee our players safety during the event? We should withdraw Joey and Yak.

Hope Yakubu doesn't follow that bus route! I can see it now bottom of the injury list Yakubu suffering bullet wound to the ass.

Shocking. Absolutely crazy.

Awful news. Hope they're all alright obviously.

But the story was lightened by this picture. Guess which bit made laugh.

Alright, alright, I know it doesn't stand for Doctor Congo, but it's still funny.

I've spent a lot of time in Africa and it is a very corrupt continent, but never did I think something like this would happen towards footballers.

It may have consequences for the World Cup, but Ido think that FIFA have already turned a blind eye to the crime in South Africa and the risk it poses in the summer. Jo'burg is the most dangerous city in the world.
