Alcohol.......

As I say, the day after can be hellish re. anxiety.

I didn't drink to that level all the time, I should point out, I'm not, nor was, an alcoholic. I've just noticed a general reduction in anxiety, with the day after a heavy night being the most intense as you refer to.

No suggestions that you were mate !.

Just that from my own personal problems with anxiety I found that the increase in anxiety the folllowing day after drinking is massively increased by the more you drank. I now know the exact level of drink I can have and still function the following day. This can cause real problems as its very difficult to explain to people at events such as weddings etc that the reason you have gone onto soft drinks is that you'll turbo charge your anxiety the following day if you carry on !

is this the same sort of deal as the depression thread then or can we discuss and recommend alcohol in here too ???

I know there's a whisky thread but I'm more into my tequila really, not the cheap supermarket stuff, the good gear like, 100% aguave and what have ya

Just curious. How much were you drinking mate ? You can make it sound much worse than it really was if you like by exagerrating upwards !

@roydo, @the esk and others were talking about home drinking which set me to thinking about how much we get through in a week and we normally polish off three bottles of wine between us in a week, which is ~ 30 units between two of us.

With the very odd exception, I couldn't function for 24 hours if I'd knocked a full bottle of wine or four or five pints back in a night these days, which is probably an age thing. Certainly 20 years ago, I could have easily handled that.

It's interesting as I hardly ever drink at home, may be a glass of wine with dinner at the weekend, very rarely during the week.

However on nights out, or like the Spurs game can drink beer for several hours with no hangover the following day.

I'm doing it as a personal challenge which also will benefit me in the long term, I'll miss a good glass of wine and the occasional malt more than beer I reckon.

To put a bit of balance on my own earlier posts..... I have a night out with friends planned on Saturday this week.... no doubt I will drink 10+ pints of lager and possibly a few rum and cokes... I will deffo suffer on sunday but will get back to 5 a side on Monday and running in midweek.

You're just pretending to be a bit of a lad now.
You'll be on the J2O's by 9:30

The closest i get to a drink these days is when i glaze a steak in whisky, usually jd.
highly recommend it.

stopped drinking when i started taking the meds off the doctor, never went back

Is this just going to be a self-congratual thread where people clap themselves on their backs for not boozing?

That's the spirit

I sit in the binge drinking bracket

I don't drink in the house, unless we have friends around
I never drink on a school night, unless Everton are at home

But when the weekend comes and especially home games I will drink heavily on that day.
All I ever drink is Larger or Bitter, and maybe a sneaky Whiskey at the end.
I struggle the next day, very lethargic and listless, the Wife isn't happy but guess it is my match day or out with the lads type thing.

This season I defiantly changed as going out at midday and getting home and just falling a sleep just isn't fair. We both work and should both enjoy the weekend. I went to a few games in the car, so drink a big no no. Also I started going out later, and also going home earlier. If honest feel better the next day, and the wife is a little happier.

I have seen people struggle with various addictions, and it scares the life out of me.

I love a pint but I am a definite binge/social drinker...

Had a period of drinking when I was younger and depressed.

It just makes you more vulnerable and more easy to manipulate.

Keep your wits about you people.

Alcohol is fine to enjoy in moderation and in good company.

Don't drink it when you're:

1. vulnerable.
2. in company you cannot really trust
3. under pressure

Its better to be healthy and enjoy a LITTLE bit of what you like but don't go overboard.

Some pints at the weekend, or if I was off in the week. I don't really do wine anymore. Not an inordinate amount really.

Not problematic in itself but when you already have experience of anxiety, it can exacerbate said anxiety beyond normal levels.
